Are we allowed to bring meat, alcohol, etc onto the island in a small ice chest?

There's no need to bring alcohol. You can find whatever you want on the Island.

As far as meat, chicken, breakfast items, you can bring them in. I prefer to bring my own breakfast meats, chicken, shrimp, etc.

Over the years we've traveled with food and without food. With the cost of bringing extra baggage on the airplane it no longer makes sense for us to bring items down for a short stay. The only exceptions we make are for specialty foods for our island friends. There really isn't much you can't get on the island if you know where to go and look hard enough.

We did tend to bring more "favorites" whenever we brought the kids with us.

The only thing I think you should bring:

-Whoppers from Burger King
-Roast Beef Sandwiches from Arby's (extra Horseysauce, please!)
-Soft tacos and burritos from Taco Bell (lotsa hot sauce!)
-Krispy Kreme donuts

(of course, the only reason I want you to bring these items is so I can buy 'em from ya! HAHA! Then, again, I've seen people get some really good deals 'bartering' with a Whopper! haha!)

Anything else you can get here...why go thru the hassle of getting it there, packing it, then paying to bring it here and lugging it to your rental, when it's already here at the store?? I mean, sure, I understand if something is not available here...but we have most everything you'll need. What did you have in mind? Maybe someone can tell you where to find it here and save yourself some hassle...(except for the Arby's/Burger King/Taco Bell/Krispy Kreme thing! Haha!)

We only brought small staples to make meals with if we only had the extra room in our luggage. Mostly junk food and non refrigerated foods. The rest we bought there at the Starfish market. Saved us a few bucks doing it this way so we could spend more money on the island somewhere...

And, sometimes it is not even about saving money - it's about saving precious time. We bring stuff because we don't want to waste the beach time running around to find everything we want. I agree that you can find just about everything but running around from store to store just takes too much time away from enjoying the islands so even if we have to pay to check an extra collapsible bag, it's worth it to us.

Short answer is yes. However, airlines are very strict on how you pack glass/liquor bottles. Then again, i've found that the alcohol down here is a lot cheaper; both by the bottle and by the glass. But of course, if you're buying those mixers from hotels then it's going to cost an arm and a leg.

You can pretty much to one stop shop for food a Pueblo.
