We are leaving in a couple of days and just wondering if there are any food stores in walking distance near the Renaissance? Under food I mean milk, bagels, candy, fruits, etc. As you can guess we are traveling with two kids 🙂
Also, about the beach there. I read it is not very good. What does it mean? I am looking for calm and clean water for swimming, don't care about snorkeling. Is there any shade on the beach?
Thanks!!!

There is a small convience store at the entrane road area to Coki Point, and fruit stands there as well. However for larger stores I would say do your shopping at Pueblo, Plaza Extra, Cost U Less - and put the things in your room - your room I would think has a small refrigerator in it???

The beach itself is nice. The water is not the best. Coki Beach is in walking distance and the water is clearer there. There is some shade not much. Lots of water sports though. Parasailing, kayaking, windsurfing..... great pool. Nice choice overall - visit other beaches. Take a hope over to St. John on the ferry.

Have a great time.

I just returned from a week at the Renaissance. Very nice hotel. We shopped at the Marina Market in Red Hook, a short cab ride. They had everything we needed. The beach is not "bad" per se it is just that there are so many beaches that are more beautiful. Megans and Coki on St. Thomas and any beach on St. John. A few comments. Coki can get crowded with the Cruise Ship people and on St. John, Trunk Bay gets very crowded. Try Caneel Bay on St. John and dont miss Megans Bay on St. Thomas. The pool at Renaissance is very nice we saw lots of kids having lots of fun. Enjoy.

Just came back. There are two small food stores 5 minutes walk from the hotel and a fruit stands. We were able to buy bottled water (half price or less from the hotel store prices), milk, cereal, bread, peanut buter, jelly, etc. All kind of sodas, juices, canned food.
Didn't like hotel beach - water is not clear enough, but went to Megans beach twice - it is absolutely great and not crowded at all. Also went to St. John to Cinnamon bay and love it too. Coki beach is okey, but too crowded and too many annoing vendors (every 5 minutes somebody will ask you to braid your hear or if you need drinks, etc.)
Hotel itself is very nice, clean, with a wet bar and small refrigirator in the room. We stayed at the very top building - 120 steps, but didn't mind it at all - good exersise.
One suggestion - if you are traveling with family, like 4 or more people, rent a car. Taxi rides are per person and it became expensive. From US you can find good rates and a good car. We tried to do it from the hotel, no Jeeps, for a small car rate was more than $60 per day and no car when we need it.
If anybody wants more info -email me and I will try to help.
