We are flying into St Thomas the day of the Carnival Parade, May 1st at 2:35 pm. Where is the parade? Will we have a hard time getting to the Charlotte Amalie Ferry to St John?
Thanks

HI Samantha,

I can't give you an answer but I have the exact same question for the exact same day. ( I saw your post on another site and have been waiting for someone to answer you!) Hubby and I fly in to STT on 4/30/04. We will be speding the night and catching the ferry the next day like you. We picked that week because of the full moon. 🙂 I am suspecting that it might take a little longer to get to the ferry due to the parade...

We picked that week because it's our one year anniversary, it was a major bonus that it was during a full moon! Where are you staying? We are 2 couples, upper 20's! We have a villa in Gifft Hill

Hi Everyone,

To help answer your question. I'm from St.Thomas and live in the states. I go the island very offen. I go around Carnival time also and will be there this year also. Here is what you may have to do. If you are flying into the Airport which is on the westend of the island. The ferry has two locations one on waterfront and the other on the east end of the island. Most of the Carnival activity happens one block north of the waterfront ferry. I'm not sure if they will be running that ferry in the morning and afternoon. Not sure if you are driving yourselves to the ferry dock. Maybe you are taking a taxis from the airport. The Taxis drivers are very familiar with the traffic on Carnival day. What they may do is take you over the hill side and not go thru downtown traffic (all depends on the time you are arriving) I would recommend taking the taxis and have them take hillside out the traffic.
I will also look up the phone numbers of the ferry's for you if you right me back. Maybe best to call them to be sure what time they are running the schedules for that day. Do you know which ferry company your going with to St. John? If there is no special one they're serveral to use. I believe every half hour on the hour.

Chat Later,
Islestyleman

I would give youself aleast 1 hour of travel time to catch the 4:00pm boat.

Carnival Parade star at 10:00am to about 6:00pm. we had them go until about 8:00pm not aure what there have lined up this year.

The traffice isn't that bad coming up the waterfront to the dock, unless the parade ends early, which is unlikely. The taxi drivers willl know what's best to do, as stated earlier!
