I will be coming to STT and STX early march, both for one night only and am hoping to do some wade/flats fly fishing while I am there. In searching the internet, I have come across a few spots on STT, but nothing on STX as far as wading from a beach into a "fishable" flat.

Anyone have any suggestions of good spots to try out in the early am on one or both islands? I will have business probably starting around 10 am, so my hopes of going out on a flats boat won't work this trip...

Thanks!

I heard Leinster Bay on STJ is the place for bonefish, cuda, shark, and jacks. Also, bring water shoes (rocks, rays, and sea urchins)I'll be there 2-19 thru 2-26. When I get back, I'll let you know how I did.

Are you sure it isn't Mary's Creek, Matt?

I also will be in stt the last week of Feb and am looking for flats to wade. If anyone has a guide and a flat to fish that they can recommend I would greatly appreciate it. I would like to flyfish for poons, permit, bones etc... anything that will eat a fly. thanks for any info. I cannot wait to experience the beauty of the VI's and hopefully have a tight line in the process.
THanks

Have never found a guide for the flats, however have fished many times on STJ. You just have to explore to find the right spots. Sorry but will not share with you the one I have found that has the "bones" but all you have to do is look for the bay with the color, dull that it may be.....

Good Luck...

RM, you sound like the "Joker" on Batman. Ha ha. Looked for Grey Bay 🙂 with no luck. I'll just have to ask my Flats Guide where the bay with color is located.

TIGHTLINES.

Hi Mike,
We were in stx in late January and my husband fly fished on the south shore for a morning with a local that he was able to connect with. This gentleman has just started up a website/club which has postings on fishing reports. Here is the link. Hope this helps.

On STT try the guide at southof20.com . He might be able to help you. Also check with the guys at Neptune tackle in Red Hook. They could point you in the right direction. I have hooked up with tarpon at Magens.... early early morning before the place wakes up.
