I would also like to know if there are any flats that are accessible in St. Thomas. I have heard of a tackle shop in Red Hook, are there any other places on STT that I could get advise and tackle from.

Hello Scott,

I have heard that the flats by Annaberg are basically the main area for flat fishing on St. John. You can try from the shore, I've seen a couple people at the end of Westin's Beach fishing.

The following charters do bone fishing if you were interested in going out with a guide.

Hello Ryan,

I am not well versed on fishing unfortunately, its on my to learn list. However I don't believe St. Thomas is known for flats fishing... and for St. John its basically only that area I mentioned. There are fishing from shore oppurtunties basically all along the rocky coast lines... on St. Thomas I've seen folks fishing from Mandahl Bay, Fortuna Bay, Magens Bay, from the rocky coast just past the Sapphire Marina, from the coast at Bolongo Bay.

The flats by Annaberg ruins is AKA Mary's Creek. It's been shared around on different fly fishing sites to the point that some have said that the bones are 'schooled' ... ie: knowledgable in the ways of the fly fisherman. Makes it a bit more challenging I'd say.

The tackle shop in Red Hook is Neptune Tackle. The guys there are friendly and can point you in the right direction.

As for 'south of 20', he is knowledgable and his rates are great. But he guides only when the waters are calmer. So during the winter months when the wind is blowing and the seas rough, he may not be on island. You can always check the website www.southof20.com or call him at the number posted on the site. Tell him Patrick recommended him. Don't be surprised if he slams the phone down on you.... 😉 Ha ha ha... just kidding. Capt. Eric is knowledgable and knows what he is doing. Can't go wrong with him.

As for flats on STT, none that I know of. I can tell you though that I have hooked up with tarpon and some small bones at Magens.

Practically any beach will have fish if the time and tide is right. Best bet would be early early morning. Hard to do though if you are hung over from all the rum punches or bushwhackers you had the night before. But then again, how gung-ho are you?

Patrick,
I have contacted Eric from southof20 and he said he will be in Arizona until late April unless he gets enough charters to bring him back early. I'm supposed to call him in March to see when he will be back. Do you know anything about Bite-Me charters? I have talked to them and they said they catch tarpon pretty regularly, so I will use them if Eric is not back yet.
