I'm an avid swimmer and still compete at the ripe old age of 39. OK...not that old. We will be in STJ from June 26-July 1, and I'd like to find a group to swim with...or even just one other interested person. I'd like to do some open water swimming in the ocean. Any ideas of groups that already do this? Any individuals that you know of that do this? I don't want to do this alone for safety reasons. Just fyi...I usually swim a mile in around 20 minutes in a pool.

Thanks!
Rick

Boy, they say that timing is everything, Rick...unfortunately...there was an article in the paper today about the Friends of the V.I. National Park putting on a Beach-to-Beach Power Swim scheduled for May 30th. They will have a 3.5 mile swim from Maho to Hawksnest as well as 1.25 mile Maho to Cinnamon swims. There are group training swims on Sundays at 8:30am until the event. They say to call 779-4940 (Friends of the Park) or check the web site: www.friends-vinp.org/swim.

That website didn't work. Any way you could check that again?

This is a great way to find some other islanders that would be willing to do a little open water swimming. They may just love it and decide to practice even after the event.

Darn...wish it was during or after my visit. Sounds like GREAT fun!

Rick

Sorry 'bout that. Copied it from the newspaper without checking...it is evidently www.friendsvinp.org/swim, no dash. They have a map of the course there I noticed!

This would be a PERFECT swim for me. The great thing is that I now have a course in mind. Now I just need some swimmers to do it with me. Anyone have an interest??
