Does anyone know how long it takes to get to the off-shore fishing grounds from Cruz Bay? Can you do it in a half day trip comfortably or do they require a full day trip?

I would love to go for marlin but I don't think my fiance is too keen on spendng the entire day on the water 20-25 miles offshore.

Half-day will be plenty. Do the South drop, as it is only about 8 miles, vs. 20ish. I'd recomend the later half of the day and find one that uses live bait, like the DoubleHeader. You will catch loads of fish and be whoop-tired by dark!

Thanks Marty....exactly the advice I was looking for.

One more question, I just found the Double Header on the web and noticed that they are located in St. Thomas (similar to most other fishing charters). Will boats based in St. Thomas typically pick up folks in St. John, are do you have to meet them in St. Thomas?

No worries. Most of them will pick you up on STJ.

If you arrange it by phone first, they will pick you up, but you will want to take the ferry back if you want them to filet up some fish for you to take with you. If not, they can drop you off, to, you just won't have any of your fresh catch!! A MUST!!
