My wife and I will be taking our first trip to St. Croix from April 3 - 10. We're staying in a villa near the airport. We would love recommendations for restaurants, beaches, and night spots.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe, my name is Lacye and i've lived on st croix for a year. Your best bet is to rent a car instead of a taxi. Christiansted is the town to go to on the east end. Fredriksted is like a ghost town since that is where the cruise ships come in and have stopped coming here about a year ago...the reason is for bad publicity about the crime. They do however have great beches and restaurants right outside of Fredricksted. Sunset grill is great to call and ask for the best seat on the beach and watch the sun set over thecaribbean waters. Anyway a great place to rent a car is at thrifty in Golden Rock, right outside of Christiansted. You must make sure you visit the drinking pigs in the rain forest, spectacular snorkeling at buck island and visit the most eastern most point in the usa, point udall. Feel free to keep in touch if you have any questions at [email protected]. My husband pat and i moved from pennsylvania about 1 year ago and bought a house down here....we are 28 years old and fell in love with the island life. also we drive on the left s keep that in mind....thanks...lacye

Hi,
Also try Avis Car Rental. They are a bit more than the others but they are right at the airport: 800-230-4898.

Hello Joe,

Day time activities - Visit -Rum Factory, - Whim Plantation, - Botanical Gardens - Forts in Christiansted and Frederiksted, Point Udall, the north shore area and the rain forest - in fact just drive around the island one day, the east end is so different from the west end.... rolling grassy hills vs. mountains with tall trees often called the rainforest.

Beaches - Protestant Cay Beach, Cane Bay, Chenay Bay, Carombola... Sugar Beach is nice but the water has a bit of seagrass in it - so swimming can be not as great as just laying on the pretty beach.

Dining - try Rumrunners, had a great lunch at Buccaneer, causual dining try Cheeseburgers, Off the Wall is a good lunch spot to, Stixx is Ok, there is a great little coffee shot type place in Christiansted - I can't remember the name - but they had really good breakfast.

Nightlife - look for happy hour at various bars/restaurants, the hotel at Protestant Cay I believe usually has a beach party/Caribbean themed thing, Divi Carina Bay often has live music at the casino.

Lots of fun; you can also try diving, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking tours, horseback...

Islander or anyone for that matter,

Is Protestant Cay Beach the same place as Hotel on the Cay?
Is that actually in Christiansted? I know you have to take a ferry to get to the hotel, but was wonering the location??

Any advise on villas/condo's or small type hotels to stay within walking distance or on Cane Bay?

Thanks
YL

Yes they are the same place, and it is in Christiansted Harbor. You take a ferry from the wharf, right by the fort in Christiansted.
