Ok all you veteran USVI travelers i need your help. My husband and I want to go to the Virgin Isalnds sometime with the next year. Which island is the best? Also we perfer to go all inclusive. We do not need high class accomodations just a clean place to stay with friendly staff and decent food. We've only been to Aruba and we loved it there so know we want to try something new. Also concerned with crime/saftey. I'm looking forward to reading all suggestions, tips from anyone....Thanks
Bj

Bonnie: I live on St Thomas. All-inclusive is not a big deal here (thank heavens!) There are a couple of places that have an all-inclusive option, but the food is so much better at the restaurants around and the island is much smaller than Aruba. BTW, we are not as "active" as Aruba either(no casino, no ATVs, no "Carlos and Charlie's" type places.)

The Wyndham Sugar Bay on STT offers an AI option. I'm not sure where else does. AI is not a popular choice in the VI, as EE points out. The VI is more of a beach hopping, restaurant sampling, island hopping get out and get around kind of place. It is much more tropical than Aruba. A different world.

For an AI kind of traveler, this might not be the best choice.

I met people at the Ritz on STT this past summer. They were paying somehting like $1,300 a day to stay in a 2 bedroom suite. The wife was joking about her husband being all fired up becuase they spent so much to stay there and all they did was get up early each day and go someplace....not returning until evening, change for dinner and go back out til late hours. He demanded that the family sit at the Ritz for at least one day of their vacation so he could feel like he was getting his money's worth. ha ha....kind of funny. So, they all sat around the pool making plans for where to go the next day while the dad forced everyone to drink the free rum punch....including me!!! LOL

Bonnie - do shift away from AI. Wyndham Sugar Bay started off strictly AI and quickly realized their mistake, now offer it as an option. Take a look at Sapphire or Secret Harbour on STT. Both have their own charm, are easily accessible and are within easy reach of just about everything. You'd be better off getting a good deal at either of these places and enjoying their amenities, renting a car for when you want to go further afield. Enjoy the planning!
