I think it is 13 by 3 miles- but those are winding miles! There aren't that many hotels, especially if you want to be on the water... The "big" hotels are Marriott Frenchman's Reef/Morningstar, Renaissance, Wyndham Sugar Bay, the Ritz-Carlton. Then there are time-share/hotels (okay, the Ritz falls in this category too) and condo/hotels and smaller family-run places. What are you looking for?

If you check out the website of the airline you're considering...it will usually tell you the duration of the flights. Depending on how long it takes from Minny to Atlanta (ATL), Philly (PHL), or Charlotte (CLT)...add 3 1/2 to 4 hours on top of that. Airport code for St Thomas is STT.

Just checked US Airways...looks like about a 7-8 hour flight from MSP through CLT or ORD (Chicago (United codeshare)). I'm in Indiana and I left at about 6:00am and arrived in STT at about 3:45pm when I was there last.

Hello Wayne,

About 31 square miles in size, highest point 1,556 feet... more geography information check out

https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/geography/

It doesnt really matter where on the island you choose to stay in terms of hotels ( many of on the east end though) - has more to do with what you want or what you might like to be closer too... ie. town or lots of beaches. Price factor for selection would affect resort, inn, hotel ect... If you expand on what you are looking for we will be able to give better recommendations.

east end of the island has quite a few hotels. is an easy jumping off point for st john too like a 15 minute ferry ride from red hook, st thomas to st john. can also get to tortola pretty easy. also good place to sign up for a day sail
