Hi folks, I'm heading to the VI from the UK for a week in early-mid July for my honeymoon and was wondering about recommendations for a place to stay. Ideally privacy is most important so we don't really want to be near others in a complex-style setting. Close to 'things to do' would also be useful, as would a villa having either its own pool or tub and an incredible view to sit and gaze at for hours on end.

There seem to be a lot of options, but the locations don't really mean anything to me so it's difficult to discern what is a positive and negative aspect of each place.

I've looked at places both on STT and STJ however my primary concern is that our flight does not land until 10pm - what options does this give us?

Any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated - can't wait til July!

If you have your heart set on STJ (great place for a honeymoon!), don't let a late arrival deter you. You can always stay on STT the first night and ferry to STJ the next day. We stayed at the Holiday Inn (across from the harbor in Charlotte Amalie, walking distance from the ferry) the first night of out last trip. You'll be exhausted after traveling from the UK; this way you'll be able to sleep in, take a dip in the pool, and have a leisurly breakfast before catching the ferry. Congratulations!

I second the above posters recommendation. Stay in St. Thomas you first night. Holiday Inn is a good suggestion or try Hotel 1829. But if you want to stay in St. John at a villa you'd better get busy contacting agents there. I suggest you get hold of several on island agents that manage villas on STJ and give them your dates and see what they have available. Go to www.virgin-islands-on-line.com and find their list of villa agents. When you have a final list of houses to choose from come back to the forum to ask for feedback from frequent visitors.
You'll also need a Jeep while you're there. The island agent can assist you with that. You'll have no trouble of course driving on the left but it will see odd to have the steering wheel on the left rather than on the right as you are used to in the UK.

We will be staying at this oceanfront condo in April for our first time. It is on the East End of St. Thomas close to the ferry dock for going to St. John. The East End is close to "things to do". This condo was reviewed and recommnended by Foders. The owner Julianna is a wedding planner/photographer and does honeymoon packages. The condo is for non smoking adults only. Julianna and Wolf are a joy to talk to and have lots of advise for first timers. They even will stock your refrigerator with your favorite breakfast foods at no extra charge. Probably the most reasonable accomodations you will be able to find. The condo is part of a small complex with a shared pool so it doesn't meet all your specifications but I think the service from Julianna and Wolf will make up for that. Another note the property is walking distance from the Ritz Carlton and their beach/pool.

Click on the condo button on the left side of her web page.
Watch for my trip report in April.
