My fiance and I are traveling to St Thomas next week. Anyone have any cool recomendations? We are not real big party animals. We enjoy drinks every other day or so....we love listening to live bands and enjoy eating. We are also getting married while we're there. I've read some good things and some bad things about the Grand Beach Palace. I guess we'll just have to go and create our own opinion of the place.

Hello Chelle,

Congrats!! Rent a car and explore the island. Do some beach hopping to Magens Bay, Secret Harbor, Sapphire... Check out some sites in town if you like history like the Fort, 99 steps... do some shopping. You might do a charter sail or diving if you want to try some on the water or underwater fun. Try some nice restaurants like Banana Tree Grill, Room with a View, Agave Terrace. For live music you might try Bolongo Bays Caribbean night on Wednesday, Sapphire's live band on Sunday afternoons, Paradise Point Happy House with live music on Wednesday afternoons...

Have a great time. (I have heard mixed reviews about Grand Palace as well - I hope you have a good time. Let us know how it goes.)

Is there alot to do within walking distance? Or is everything a hike? We don't mind the walk if its less than a mile or so.

Chelle,

My experience is that, although the island is relatively small, everything is NOT walking distance. And the roads can be quite treachorous. Plus there is so much you can explore with a car. I took a car over to St. John on the car ferry, and explored some of those beaches. I would definitely recommend doing that.

I agree about not walking.

A) There are hills pitched at over a 50 degree angle. (Not kidding)
B)The roads are narrow with lots of curves, in the dark, that might not be a good idea with other cars on the road to be walking.
C)Rain showers come out of nowhere.
D)The sun can get awfully hot.

Rent a car. It only takes about 15 minutes to get used to driving on the other side of the road. Just don't try to steer around a pothole. You will invariably hit a larger one in the process. Besides, a/c is nice, you can go from end to end of the island in about a half an hour so you will be able to see and do more, and it's cheaper than taxis.
Even though the roads on STT pretty much bite the big one, the drivers are very polite. Roads in St. John are quite nice in comparison, however...and the car ferry is a nice trip over. When I lived there, I would take my car over to STJ just about every weekend.

Also add E & F

E. No sidewalks

F. No shoulders on most roads.

Chelle,

For something really cool and great memories Scubadu offers dinner cruises. If you like great food you will enjoy theirs. LA
