Hi, this will be my wife and my first trip to St. Thomas. We are staying for 3 nights Thrus-Sun at the Ritz Carlton and were wondering what to do on the island. What we should do and be sure not to miss as well as where to go, bars, nightlife, sightseeing and dining. If anyone has any suggestions we would greatly appreciate it.

Immediately get yourself to a bookstore and find the book: United States Virgin Islands - A Photographic Portrait by Steve Simonsen. He is a photographer that has lived and worked on St.John for many years and has produced one of the most spectacular looks at our little corner of paradise. Perhaps in looking through this book you will find some particular sights of historical places that might be of interest.

I will leave it to others to suggest "nightlife" activities.....but please don't waste the daylight hours, there is so much to see. Go to Vegas for "nightlife", would be my advice.

Hi Dave...

Since this is your first trip, you will experience culture shock. That is, a difference in life styles from the main land. If you want a few memories of the islands to take home, then try Duffy's and most of Redhook. View the harbor in the daytime, do Drakes seat and tour Blackbeards castle.....all worthy of the visit. Take plenty of pictures.

But to visit the islands is to visit with the people, good and bad. Their reality is so different from what we expect in the states. Don't fret, just listen and enjoy learning about a people that have lived in a paradise to us, a sometimes problematic world to them. The tourist have educated them as well, and you must look hard sometimes for the true nature of the people and the islands.

It's all there, paradise and reality, dig in and find both, each make the other a world and a life. Islanders spend a lifetime in a world the we save a lifetime just to visit....

easy now....
Andrew

...and when you've got a couple of hours in the daytime to relax, drive or taxi to Megan's Bay and lay on the beach soaking in the unbelievable vista while a bikini-clad beauty serves you foo-foo drinks to enjoy while you gear up for a nite out dining and hitting a few nitespots...

enjoy!

Boy, Dave! You sure received a lot of serious answers to a question about having fun! Definitely take an island tour to see the lay of the land- either by taxi or if you rent a car, you can do a beach tour. Shopping if you are into it (a memento of the trip?) Coral World to get an idea of wildlife. A snorkel tour on the Lady Lynsey out of the Ritz. For dinners: Blue Moon one night and maybe Banana Tree Grill for a view dinner. Nightlife- have them drop you in Red Hook on a Friday or Saturday night and bar hop. Are you sure you are only staying for 3 days? I've got more ideas!!

Don't forget a nice relaxing day aboard New Horizons II out of Sapphire Marina.

Almost forgot, go to http://www.coralworldvi.com/cpn03.htm for a discount coupon for Coral World. It is an interesting stop after which you can go to Coki Beach to cool off.

Hello Dave,

Have to agree with East Ender - only 3 days. 🙂

Ok here are my suggestions;

Day time: Beach hop, Magens Bay, rent a car for a day or the whole time so you can see and do more. In any case drive all over the island see the look outs, Drakes Seat, Mountain Top, Paradise Point, Bluebeards, Blackbeards... lots of photo ops at the places mentioned.

Here is Paradise Points web site www.paradisepointtramway.com

Dinner - I second Banana Tree Grill and Blue Moon Cafe. Nighlfie - you can try Duffys and XO - they are close to each other as well as other Red Hook bars. Frenchtown's Epernay is nice.

The book Paul mentioned you can pick up on-line at http://www.vitraders.com in the book section.

Have a great time. OH almost forgot; spend some time at the Ritz - their new property is beautiful.

Take a day sail to/around St. John.
