Hello, My wife and I have been "silent members" for quite awhile. We are getting ready for our trip to STT and STJ at the beginning of April. Eight days of pure relaxation! I thought I better get on there this time and get some more info! Last year was our first visit to the islands and we were hooked! This year we are spending 3 days at Maho Bay and the rest at our place on STT. I'll start out with just a couple of questions. Where are some good spots to snorkel on STJ? Last year we only spent one day on STJ and only went to Trunk Bay. We are also thinking of a day trip to BVI's, any thoughts there? This site is a wealth of info and fun to read- Thanks for any help!

Hello choppersd,

Welcome! I am sure you noticed other people on the board saying how they got hooked after visiting St. John too, so your in company that understands! 🙂

For snorkeling on St. John you should try Waterlemon/Leinster Bay and also Lameshur. Haulover is good too. Cinnamon Bay is nice, nice beach, snorkeling and the ruins/trail are right there. I am sure others will weigh in with additional beach & snorkeling suggestions!

For researching your day trip to BVI check out a few of the activities pages on the site, like St. John Daysails, St. Thomas Daysails and BVI Trips. And if you wanted to do it on your own you can check out the Ferry Schedules too.

We have gone over to the BVI's with New Horizons II three times over the years - check out the website - http://www.newhorizonscharters.com/

They originate in STT and pick up passengers In STJ on the way to the BVI's. Full day of fun, food , pain killers etc.. Highlights -snorkeling, The Baths, Pussers for lunch, and the soggy dollar. Little pricy but includes a lot of sights in one day.

Hello, I took the NHII both trip & we went to Marina Cay for lunch & snorkel at Diamonds Reef. Isn't Pussers on Tortola & where did you snorkel?

We've been to the islands 6 previous times and this is the first year that I snorkeled the area all the way to the left side of Cinammon Bay (looking out to the ocean). I was amazed at how much coral and small sea life there is over there. We snorkeled over to Little Cinammon Beach. Just goes to show that there is always something new to see in the islands!

The BVI trip is a great challenge! We have also done the New Horizons II trip and have given it very high reviews. If your budget allows, I'd strongly recommend a powerboat with captain trip for the day. Lion in Da Sun is a great outfit and they'll definitely show you the area and a great time. Just let them know what type of activities you enjoy - would you prefer a strong snorkel trip? Or would you rather spend more time at the Baths and seeing Virgin Gorda? Or are you a beach fanatic who would be happiest getting to 3-4 different sandy beaches for an hour or so each. They are totally flexible on where you'll go based upon what YOU want to do. And - if you aren't sure - that's okay because they've done it often enough that they'll schedule a great day. It's pretty expensive for just a couple (around $700 for the day with boat and gas) but you might be able to find some others to join you by posting the opportunity on this board. In fact that's how my wife and I got to go 2 years ago - we joined another 2 couples who had the date booked already and wanted to split the cost.

Good Luck! Have Fun!

Where is Blue Cobblestone beach?

Blue Cobblestone beach can be found along the Ram Head trail at the west end of Salt Pond Bay. It literally is covered with stones, not a great place for sunbathing. When we crossed it while on our way to Ram Head there were snorkelers there off of moored boats.
During our stay at Cinnamon Bay Campground the north winds made the surf a little rough for snorkeling. We got a ride to Waterlemon Bay and it was great snorkeling there. Then we took a trip to Salt Pond which was also great. At the end of our camping trip the winds died down and there were lots of fish to look at along the coral in Cinnamon Bay. You can't lose!
