reserved a villa for our family's summer vacation in June. We have 3 kids (17,14,11) and are looking to really get away from it all in STJ.

Just a couple of ?'s:

We've reserved Le Lapin for a week and are coming in a day early. Our flight arrives at 3:00 pm. I understand some stay in STT for a night, rent a vehicle, buy groceries and ferry over the next day. Would greatly appreciate any tips for that plan.

Another option is to ferry over and stay at a local hotel that night and rent the vehicle in STJ. Very interested in hearing the pros and cons of both approaches.

I want to convince my loving spouse to pack super light given a washer/dryer. Our kids always seem to be hungry. Does anyone pack snacks?

Has anyone stayed at this villa? It used to be called Dolphin Run, I believe. Have not been able to locate any reviews as yet.

This board is a great resource. Any feedback is much appreciated.

jp,

6 trips since oct 04 and always rented at airport and will do same later this month. only bought groceries on stt first trip and decided on future trips not worth the hassle. we find it easier coming and going BUT one day we'll miss a barge or have car problems on stj and it'll be my problem. try a search on car rental st thomas or st john there are a lot of opinions.

we pack light clothes wise but do bring a lot of breakfast & snacks: coffee, mw popcorn, tea & other drink mixes, oatmeal and grenola bars and trail mix. we eat/drink same at home and is cheaper and saves time at starfish market where we shop in stj.

while we have never stayed at le lapin we found her an attractive possibility and we tried to drive by on a prior trip. you will need a four wheel drive vehicle to get to her. great views of hart bay and the carribbean on the way up but my bride was afraid to look! except for the climb and wind up the hill from chocolate hole east rd, she in a convenient location and short drive to cruz bay.

Hmmmm....if you're coming in a day early, it might be easier to find a room in STT than STJ because STJ doesn't really have hotels, except for the Westin and Caneel. As for the car rental, I'd rent on STJ just because of the hassle that I've heard the car barge can be. You have to pass by Starfish on the way to your villa, so I'd wait to get groceries once I got on STJ as well.

I'm very envious. We originally had plans to go in June and would have been staying very near you (Calypso Del Sol) but had to cancel due to family health issues and the teen in our group not being able to find a friend who would be able to go.
