Our local news (Phila) reported that the 3rd suspect has been arrested in the death of Jaimie Cockayne last year.

Hopefully, the police are finally starting to take notice? This makes me actually think that they have been working on this case the whole time. Good for them.

Another arrest? No-finally the correct arrest! It's about time the police arrested the RIGHT GUY! They've been dragging their feet for a year now even though they knew who did it.

Well Baysider..we'll see because there are witnesses who "supposedly" saw Thomas and Boston chase Jaime up the hill.

At least somebody was working on the case.

There is more to making an arrest than knowing who did it. It also requires gathering of evidence, and interviewing witnesses. This doesn't always happen on our timetable, but congratulations to the police and the Attorney General's office - who have been working on it the whole time.

Yes! Gathering the correct evidence takes TIME, which is something that was overlooked in the beginning. There was a rush to arrest innocent men without substantial evidence. It was like a lynch mob not caring as long as they arrested someone to make it look like something was being done. All becauseof big money, politics and national news-well at least they have the right one now.

The truth WILL prevail and the Truth will set them FREE

Baysider, how do you know so much about this case? Not saying I know alot, but it seems like you know that the first 2 arrested are innocent? They weren't there? Only one person responsible? What?

How do you know that the most recent arrest is the person responsible?

Connie - you're once again going off on a tangential course. Go back to your previous posts a year ago when you were so up in arms about how bad the local investigation was and what a total travesty of justice it was and what a debacle to boot.

You're an occasional visitor and are entitled to your outside opinion. I confess I 'm not sure what to say at this point except that thel letter of the law will eventually prevail. Cheera!

I have a question, in the Vi Daily News it stated that Jahlil Ward a.k.,a. criminal was convicted and sentenced to 15 months and $5000.00 in August 2006 so why was he out of jail on June 19 2007? Why do the court records show, "No known disposition" for his previous crime of shooting a sixteen year old boy?

Inmates are frequently released on probation or parole before completing their full sentence. That may have been what happened in that situation. As for the other question, I have no idea, but an obscure internet travel forum probably isn't the best place to get it answered.

So a year ago post (thanks for looking) makes my post now tangential?

I'm glad that somebody was working on the case, but I still believe that at the time the investigation stunk.

Connie,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I had no clue that this had taken place. I SOOOOOO pray that this will be solved and he will be convicted!

It is kind of funny, the impact that television has had on the though process. All of those CSI type of programs have conditioned people to expect crimes to be solved in the span of a TV show. On top of that all of those wonderful modern scientific methods of crime scene analysis and investigation have had a bit of a back lash for the law enforcement community. The fact that the general public has an unrealistic expectation of the process of crime solving but a high percentage of criminals are now more cautious with regards to crime scenes. I guess you might say they pick up tips from TV. I am in no position to critique the Virgin Island Law Enforcement community and I certainly don't know anything about the crime that was discussed here. I simply hope that justice will be served.

vibound: I wholeheartedly agree. I recall that I brought up the same point over a year ago when the Jaimie Cockayne murder became a media feeding frenzy.

"connie," I didn't have to look up your posts from a year ago. I remembered them well, as you were just one of several off-island commentators who became emotionally involved and denigrated the local law enforcement officials for their alleged mishandling of information and evidence.

"sherri", you've lived here for a quarter century but you expressed surprise when connie posted this news two days after it had been covered at length in the Daily News, The Avis and the online Source, as well as being on the local radio news and, so I've heard, discussed on local talk shows.

We all hope that this case will finally be resolved and put to rest but the law works in sometimes mysterious and convoluted ways to its conclusion and, as "vibound" has so aptly said, we watch all these TV shows which, within the space of a one hour TV time slot, solve crimes within what APPEARS to be within just a few weeks and months. That's not reality, it's condensed TV.

Cheers!

STT....I also believe that there are quite a few people ON island that have a problem with your law enforcement officials. Not just with this case but quite a few others. Just because I'm OFF islands doesn't make me immune or not concerned with the news.

I haven't seen much on this case from the TV. It was reported when it happened and there was a very short clip about it last week. Probably lasted 10 seconds, no more. The case was discussed in length over the past year from VI local papers and that's where I got my information.

STT. ...maybe you should read my original post. My point was...I'm glad that "somebody" evidentally was working on the case and I was trying to congratulate them. Jeez...just leave it at that.

Sherri if you need links to the VI papers with the stories, just let me know. I'll save you some time:P
