Hello,
Planning a first trip to the islands and have a few questions.

1. How far of a hike/walk is Fish Bay from Cruz Bay on St. John? is it doable with traffic and such?

2. Are there any economical alternatives to get to St. Croix from St. John or St. Thomas, during the week? The Cruzan distillery is only open on weekdays, and ferries to St. Croix seem to only run on weekends.

3.Whats the best place to rent a vehicle from in St. John?

4. Planning on seeing St. John, St. Thomas, St. Croix, and Jost Van Dyke, what are the "must sees" on these islands.

Thanks!!

How long is your vacation? It might be better to focus on STT, STJ and Water island and leave the rest for another trip.

1 - long hilly unwalkable distance
2 - air transport - seaplane or airport departures from STT -- none from STJ -- ferry transport is often variable in STT
3 - many good choices available
4 - way too many - what kind of activities interest you most

I'll be there for a week end of October.
I'm up for all activities.
How crazy does Foxy's get on Halloween?
Is Courtesy Car Rental pretty good?

Don't forget if you are on Jost for Halloween evening you will have to stay overnight - no public ferry at night and you have to clear US Immigration and Customs on your return as well (make sure as of June 1st you have a Passport if going to the BVI's)
Plenty of fun places on STJ for a party.

Mike1030,
You will definately want to rent a car in STJ. Since you are only here for a weekend, you may want to skip the STX part this trip and stick to STJ and STT. If you still want a side trip, tho I don't know how you will do it all, I would do a trip either to Jost or a boat trip to the Baths in Virgin Gorda. The nice thing about being in STJ and STT is there are many Islands that are close by. STX is 40 miles away and really the best way to go is by sea-plane...... it CAN be done, but your time is short. Want to see your trip report, especially if you pull off all of the places you want to go! (tu)
Reminder: please take some time to relax .... just a little! 😎

"Since you are only here for a weekend..."

Admittedly the OP's grammar leaves his intent unclear, but when he says he'll be here for "a week end of October" he probably means for a week AT THE end of October, not a weekend in October. 🙂

SJJ is the only place you need to see and you wont be going any where else. Trust me.

Hey Kevin: What are you, the vacation police?:P Some people actually enjoy going to various islands.

I agree with Kevin, there is plenty to see and do on St John your first time.

The walk from Fish Bay to Cruz Bay is do able but steep. I would want to spend my time on the beach instead of walking South Shore Road.

I rent from L&L rental.

Levi and Kurt are always great to deal with with very competetive pricing.

I noticed that you mentioned wanting to go to STX to see the Cruzan distillery. If that is your main reason, I would probably skip it. I've been to STX (and only STX) 4 times now, and have to say that the distillery isn't that spectacular.

My husband and I toured the distillery last June. The tour only took 1/2 hour. It was interestiing. The best part was when we spent the next 3 hours at their bar. We drank lots and lots of different concoctions of their rum....for free!!! We would do it again.

JMO, but I'd save STX until another trip. Have now made three trips and racked up 36 days on STX and haven't yet made it even half way through my list of the places we want to see and the restuarants we want to try. Again, jmo, but STT/STJ/Jost is a LOT for one week. Next time, maybe STJ/VG. Unless you are not planning on sleeping or spending any time on the beauitful beaches - just doing drive-bys - lol. Have a great time and don't forget the trip report.
