Please advise....First time to STT and Tortola. I'll have a friend meeting me on my arrival in STT so I'll leave the getting to Tortola up to him but I'll be solo from Tortola to STT. On my return I need to get to the STT airport from Tortola (SunSail) to catch a flight at noon on a Sunday. If I catch the 9am Fast Ferry from Road Town will that allow me enough time? I see the arrival time listed at 9:50 at Charlotte Amalie. Does that allow me enough time to go thru customs, catch a taxi to the airport, check my luggage and board the noon flight? Would a different ferry/time be better? Don't be afraid to be detailed in your answer. I need all the help I can get. Will this work? Thanks!
i think you should take the first thing smoking, and not that ferry. two hours does not give you enough leeway because you have to be in the system 2 hours before your flight to ensure that all goes well. it's not a problem getting to the airport in 5 minutes but remember you have to pass thru a customs line to get off the boat, and that will likely eat up about 20 minutes depending on who's on the boat with you.
also, the sunday ferries tend to have last minute reschedules due to fewer riders, and you may find it postponed with nothing leaving until long after your plane from st. thomas is airborne.
see if you can get the first boat, that way you can be relaxed on your way back and even have time for breakfast once you get through security and whatnot. even if you have to go to the other side of the island to make the ferry, do it.
We traveled from STT to Tortola and from Tortola to Virgin Gorda and STJ and from STJ to STT. This was our first time traveling in the VI. Here is my advise......When you get there you, like everyone else, will be on Island time. This is a good thing! The world would be a better place if we were all on Island Time! This means if your ferry gets in late to an Island just call ahead to your rental agent/ jeep rental agent and they will wait for you " no problem Mon" . Taxi's are usually easy to get and tend to get to your destination quickly. Ferries are late, early, slow, fast, sometimes loud, sometimes cushy....You just never know. Sometimes customs are quick sometimes slow.....again you just never know. It is best not to rely on making a flight from a ferry. We spent the night in STT because we had a mid-morning flight out. It turned out to be a good decision. We had a great time and found the Ferries to be a great way to travel between the Islands. We really enjoyed all of the Island each had their own flavor, all are different. Have a great time. Visit Myett's in Cane Garden Bay.
