How rough is the trip between Charlotte Amalie and Cruz Bay? I can handle boat trips on lakes with no problem, but when I've traveled on boats in the Pacific Northwest, I've had to take Dramamine.

It depends on the wind. It is only a 40 minute ride but I have had one ride that was a bit choppy. It did not bother my wife who is prone to mild motion sickness. Of course, her mind was on the destination and not the ride. 🙂

It all depends on your motion tolerance level, but I would take take a non-drowsy one just to be safe. It wouldn't be worth it starting your vacation feeling nauseated.

Better safe than sorry for true.

It's usually a very calm ride (and very beautiful, I might add, with a view of the South side of STT which many visitors who taxi and take the Red Hook/STJ ferry never experience) but if you're in the least bit prone to seasickness or motion sickness, prep yourself in advance. I would take a half dose a half hour before boarding and go from there.

The ferry boats are well stabilized but you should also go to the upper open-air deck. I don't suffer from seasickness but NEVER travel on the lower enclosed deck below unless going through a little squall. Cheers!
