Hi there, we are cruising to STT in March and we want to take a ferry to STJ. I see that there is a ferry in Charlotte Amalie. Is it walking distance from where our ship docks? We want to go to Trunk Bay Beach in STJ. Once the ferry docks in STJ will we need a taxi to get to Trunk Bay Beach? If so, does anyone know approx. how much per person that would be? There are four of us. I have seen pics of Trunk Bay Beach and it looks beautiful. Does it live up to the expectations? I have already been to Magen's Bay in STT, and enjoyed it, but we thought we would try STJ and Trunk Bay this time.

The cost is 8.00 per person yes it is more buetiful then the pictures. But I think there are better beaches on STJ but if you only have a short time trunk is good.

The CA ferry to StJ departs across the harbor from where the ships dock at Havensight, I suppose it is walkable but it would be a stretch, at least a mile, maybe more, and not sure if there is sidewalk all the way. I believe there is only room for 3 ships to dock, so if it's a busier day and you are anchored, the tenders may let you off in the vicinity of the CA ferry. The CA ferry to StJ doesn't run as frequently as the one from Redhook, do a search to find the times. The total cost for a taxi to RH and then the ferry from there is similar to going from CA, just a question of how much time on water vs. land.

There is also an admission fee at Trunk, $4 IIRC. I agree with waterguy, it's beautiful, but there are better places to go. Since Trunk has the name, it will get bunches of cruise ship people. Of course, it also has more in the way of amenities (food, drink, restrooms, shower, etc.). Another option to consider is Cinammon, It's just past Trunk, no admission, also has amenities since there are cabins, and I believe is the largest beach on StJ. Taxis are there as well. While you could go for other beaches, there will be no amenities and no taxis, so for a day tripper it is probably not realistic unless you manage to snag a rental car, which would be hit or miss depending on whether an agency has one to rent - they don't normally rent for just a day.

Since you've been to STT before, I'd give a thumbs up for trying StJ. Only thing might be to check if there are winter seas/ground swells whatever they call them, sometimes the north shore can have rough seas in winter which prevent snorkeling.

Trunk is a very beautiful beach and is also the best known beach. It will also probably be the most crowded beach on the island by far. There are lots of other beaches that are quite beautiful and much less crowded. Cinnamon Bay has amenities and is easily accessible by taxi from the ferry in Cruz Bay.

The ships dock at two different areas: Havensight and Crown Bay. You can walk to the ferry dock from Havensight fairly easily (less than a mile) but not really from Crown Bay.
