*I am heading to the Caribbean via a cruise ship in a few weeks. I want to go to St. John. I have checked the ferry schedules and it appears that the ferry from Red Hook is the best option. When I return from St. John are there taxis available at the Red Hook ferry dock back to the cruise ship docks. Also, do you have any other suggestions for what I should do on St. John. I am looking to go to Trunk Bay and then shopping in Cruz Bay.

Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You should have no problems catching a taxi from the ferry dock "back to the ship"... just be sure to give yourself at least an hour and a half before your deadline to be back on board. With traffic and the many stops you may make along the way, we don't want you missing the boat!

Trunk Bay is always a good idea, and you may wish to check out Pastory Gardens for a round of mini-golf and some good eats as well... http://www.pastorygardens.com/ - careful you don't wile away too many hours and forget to leave St. John... 😉

Thanks for the information...the more I read about St. John the more I think I may want to stay. Pastory Gardens looks like a great place so it will go on our list of places to see.

Hey CBS,
STJ is fabulous but I would give yourself at least 2 hours before your ship sails to get back ie: if it sails at 5pm or 5:30pm no later than the 3pm return ferry. I have been in a taxi from Red Hook to the pier and traffic was horrible and then other times it was a breeze (then latter being the norm) Enjoy your time on STJ - you will have a great time.
ps: the later in the day the worse the traffic becomes getting back to the ship.
