Hello
2 questions -
I'm looking for an opinion about travel time. Our flight gets in to St. Thomas at 2:15 and we will have checked bags. If the flight is on time would you think we could make the 3pm ferry from Charlotte Amalie?

The ferry leaves from Red Hook going to Cruz Bay on the hour? 9pm 10pm 11pm and midnight? I have a friend who thinks it goes on the 1/2 hour.. Please clarify.

Thanks.

If your plane is on time if your bags are the first off of the plane if the baggage belt is working if the taxi is almost full when you get your bag yes. All red hook ferries run on the hour except the 2 in the morning.

The ferry schedules are all listed top right of this page under "Quick Links." You'll be out of the freeze soon.

Waterguy, when the baggage belt was down a while back... oh my did everyone waiting look like :-X. There were a few exceptions that looked 8-)... probably had snuck in a few Cruzan welcome drinks. 😉

bfpbrady - everything would have to be just right as Waterguy mentioned to make the 3pm from Charlotte Amalie. The comment about the taxi being almost full is that the taxis typically wait to fill up with people going in the same direction. If it looks like none of the taxis are near being full and ready to go - you could request a private taxi. Private taxi within town limits: $55 for 1-4 passengers, (5 or more passengers add $7 for each additional person). There is a 4pm ferry from Charlotte Amalie, so that can be your back up plan. Or the 4pm from Red Hook.

waterguy, are you OK? Unless I'm totally whack, the 6:30 and 7:30 ferries are AM. The OP is asking about the possibility of catching a 3PM from CA to STJ after a scheduled 2:15 flight arrival and your first response was right on for the most part.

My apologies, Islander, but I'm an old fart who has a bit of a hard time dealing with nice smileys, grimace smileys and a plethora of icons/emoticoms (it took me several minutes to come up with the latter correct word! but it still comes up with daggers!) which I guess are supposed to say something substantive to those "in the know" but my old eyes can't tell a wink from a nod.

OK, bfpbrady, that now said and off my chest, If you go to the ferry schedule there are options depending upon your actual arrival time. It's pretty much a no brainer and cost-wise works out the same. The taxi dispatcher at the airport will let you know of any changes but best to ensure you know the schedules in advance.

Once you reach you're on island time so don't fuss. Breathe in the warm air, sip on a welcoming rum punch from those ladies at the VI Tourism booth at the airport, take a deep breath. Have another rum punch, take another breath. Bid the ladies and everyone else you meet upon arrival with a "Good Afternoon" greeting before you even breathe or ask a question - and wait even further as they respond to you with a returned, "Good Afternoon." That's USVI 101 in a nutshell and which will get you off on the right footing. Cheers!

STT Resident - maybe you missed something when reading through the replies and that is why Waterguy's last reply 'confused' you. It was to Pia, and was clarifying the 'except 2 in the morning' part of his previous reply providing the Red Hook ferry schedule -- which he provided because the original poster in addition to asking about the afternoon STJ ferry from Charlotte Amalie, also asked about the Red Hook ferry.

If you can't make out or don't understand the smiley faces, mouse over them, a text description pops up. For example: 😮 (if you put your mouse over it the little tag says: surprised.

Hey I just did this in Dec., we ported at Havensight which really surprised me, I was on the Emerald Princess it normally ports at Crown Bay. We ported at Havensight, I was in a taxi and on my way to Redhook in 10 minutes(max), caught the 9am ferry over to St.John another taxi at Cruz Bay to Trunk Bay and I was on the beach at 9:40. Too nice, weather over at Trunk was AWESOME!! St. Thomas is ALWAYS a BLAST!! This was my 7th trip back and will be back again this Nov/Dec it doesnt matter whether you go into Charlotte Amalie or take the ferry to St..John, St. Thomas is genuine fun I hate leaving, by the way that little bar right beside the port at Havensight is GREAT!! Shopping is genuinely great I spent a small fortune but was worth it, cant wait to go back to the USVI, oh Parks service does a GREAT job with Trunk, best beach facilities in the Caribbean. Really wanted to head to downtown Charlotte Amalie and pick up a bottle of something to drink but just didnt have the time to get down there. I ended up shopping and drinking(at Havensight), and drinking some more before our ship left it was GREAT!! I think I like Havensight more than I do Crown Bay. Have they opened up anymore bars or shops at Crown Bay?? Anyway looking forward to getting back to the islands again this fall, for any of you resident islanders thanks for all the fun every year, St. Thomas is always a GREAT time, thats why I keep coming back. Later

Hello JungleStud, sounds like you really enjoy your stops in St. Thomas :)!! More stores have been opening at Crown Bay; there are about 20 or so shops, 7-8 vendors with souvenirs, clothing etc., a couple spots for food/drinks, dive shop and some other things.
