I apologize if this question has been asked in the past, but I'm wondering about the best ferry/way to get to St. John for the day. Our cruise ship arrives in St Thomas on a day that 4 other ships will be there! We are all planning and hoping to visit St John first thing off the ship, but weren't sure the best ferry to take. Our cruise ship ports at 10:00am and it looks like this is the same time the ferry leaves from Charlotte Amalie. Is our best option to directly take a taxi to red hook once off the ship and taking the ferry from there? We had hoped to leave from Charlotte Amalie to save driving time and taxi cost and are disappointed to find out that it leaves right when we arrive. So the ferries leave right on the hour they indicate or is there some waiting time? Also, are there any other options in getting over to St John with a group of 6 that don't include taking one of the tours from the ship? Thanks!

The ferry from Red Hook is always the best option if you din't want a ship tour. It's the most reliable year round option.

i will have to go with ms411 on this one too. if your ship docks at 10am you will likely not touch your foot to the ground at that time, it takes some time for everyone to disembark. that leaves you the afternoon, literally.

i recommend taking the taxi to red hook and back to the ship after.

your schedule will also depend on when your ship is departing and when you must be back on board.
