I would like to know if there is any car ferry linking St. Thomas to St. Croix. Is St. Croix worth visiting? Thanks Flavia
There is no car ferry between St. Thomas and St. Croix. There is only a car ferry between St. Thomas' Red Hook Dock and St. John Cruz Bay dock. There are beaches, attractions, snorkeling, shopping.... worth visiting on St. Croix.
Thanks for your reply.Which is the way I can visit St. Croix as Iwill be staying in St. Thomas ?I will be staying at the Tropic Leisure club at Magens Pt.Resort, any information about this place? Thanks again
Your option would be to take a small airline over. There are several commercial airlines that go between St. Thomas and St. Croix several times a day.
Thanks again for the info.Any idea about plane fares St.Thomas-St. Croix? Is there any excursion to Buck Island by boat from St.Thomas?I was told this is a place worth visiting but I don't know how far it is.Has anybody stayed at the Tropic leisure club at Magens point? We will be staying there due to our timeshare. Thanks for your information!! Flavia
Hello Flavia, I have never stayed at Magens Point but I have been to there before to the restaurant, bar and pool. The grounds are lovely, the pool is nice. It is close to Magens Bay which is nice - as you can go in the morning or evening when the crowds are gone for a nice walk - the beach is beautiful all the time but extra nice before sunset and in the morning. Plane fares can run anywhere from $79 when there are specials on American to $120ish on the seaplane and probally no more than $150 - these are estimates. Buck Island is beautiful - I am not familiar with any day trip boat excursions that leave from St. Thomas to Buck Island - there of course day boat excursion to Buck Island from St. Croix.
Don't know when you are coming to St Thomas, but we are supposed to get fast ferry service in November. Not a car ferry, but a less expensive option from Charlotte Amalie harbor to Christensted, about $60 round-trip. I think you are probably asking about the St Croix Buck Island, but St Thomas has one too! We are kinda copy cats that way! And you can get a day sail trip from town to snorkel there...
IT IS INDEED WORTH GOING TO ST. CROIX. I MEAN, IF YOU GO TO ST. THOMAS YOU MUST VISIT ST. JOHN AND ST. CROIX. ST. CROIX IS THE BIGGEST OF THEM ALL. OFCOURSE, ST. THOMAS IS THE TOURIST ATTRACTION BUT ST. CROIX HAS ALOT OF BEAUTIFUL BEACHES AND LOTS OF THINGS TO DO. NOW IF YOU JUST WANT TO SPEND QUIET TIME AT THE BEACH VISIT ST. JOHN THEY HAVE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACHES THERE.
I recently visited all of the U.S. Virgin Islands and must say I was most impressed with St. Croix. Having visited a lot of Caribbean islands, St. Croix was rather refreshing, because of the varied landscapes (jungle on the west end and arid on the east end) and the plethora of sugar mill ruins. St. Croix has a much more interesting history (7 flags have flown over the island), which means unique people and food.
The fast ferry should be starting soon, sometime in December 2001. I took a seaplane from St. Thomas to St. Croix. That was a cool experience in itself and costs me $65 one way. The ferry will be the cheaper option. SAt. Croix is 40 miles away from St. Thomas. By seaplane it takes about 20 minutes. By ferry it will take almost two hours. There are lots of day excursions to Buck Island once you are on St. Croix. Info can be found at most hotels. Mile Mark Watersports offers a good trip for between $40 and $60. They can be reached at 340/773-2628.
Good luck!
Can anyone tell me more about the Ferry from St. Thomas to St. Croix. I read there was a catamaran that ran from St. Thomas to St. Croix but didn't say what the schedule was or price per trips. I plan to go to St Croix ,but can take a nonstop flight to St Thomas.I can't St.Croix. Are there any more ferry's that do this?
If you click on "Ferry Schedule" under Quick Links top right this page you'll find info on the STT/STX ferry. Be forewarned, though, that the ferry is locally known as the "Barf Barge" or the "Vomit Comet" as the crossing is over open sea which can be quite turbulent at times. I understand, though, that they do pass out brown barf bags when necessary. Since this thread first started in 2001 I recall at least three different companies offering the trip but it's really not the preferred way to travel between STT and STX. A flight on the seaplane or Cape Air is the best bet for most locals but I would check with your travel agent as several flights to STX stop first on STT and then go on to STX. Hope this helps a little.
Take a look at the multi city option when you look at flights for STT and add in the dates and flight to STX, sometimes this adds it for little money.
Have a great trip.
Thank you for answering my question.
