hi all, i don't remember if this was brought up so thought i would ask. is it better to buy a one way ticket to st. john from red hook, or buy the round trip? and if you buy a round trip ticket can it be used for anytime during the day to return or does it have to be for a certain time and ferry. thanks all, scooby
I always buy just one-way, in case I decide that I want to take a different one back to STT..like to Charlotte Amalie, instead of Red Hook. To my knowledge, you can use the return trip ticket at anytime, but it must be the same destination you originated from.
thanks much marty, scooby
Hello Scooby,
In terms of the passenger ferry I don't think one way is better than round trip and vice versa. The price is even the same: one way is half of round trip. That said when I go over for the day I buy roundtrip tickets. My reasoning - avoid the possibility of having to wait in line to buy a ticket on the St. John side. Sometimes I have seen a line, sometimes not. 🙂
When you buy a roundtrip, it’s good for any scheduled time during the day, on that ferry route, with either company. The passenger ferry is operated by two companies; they work together.
I also buy roundtrip when I take the car barge too. Works out to be cheaper because a one way is not half of round trip but rather a little bit more than half. There are three car barge operators, they work independently. Some folks prefer to buy one way on the car barge so they can come back with any of the three.
Hope that helps (tu).
