The ferry takes baggage which is the main reason it's really missed. I wouldn't get my hopes up about taking it unless you live here or are staying on STT for an extended stay.

I agree but can you answer the questions in the first paragraph above?

What paragraph above? If you mean prior schedules, they've never been online.

I think it's irrelevant anyway, because so much has changed with the economy this year. Also, I think this is St Croix's 50th festival, so there may be more demand like there was for STT carnival.

I would certainly NOT count on this ferry to get to STX during carnival. I don't think they take reservations, it's first come, first served. It is possible that you wouldn't get on.

Thanks everyone!! Our tickets are non refundable, were flying from chicago to florida to st thomas. The only reason we cant chose a different airline cause we got our tickets directly from the airline not a travel site. If you cancel them we lose all our money. I have looked into seaborne and cape air for a plane to fly us from stt to stx and its available just was trying to save some money thats all!

I would like to hear first hand stories from people about their ferry ride experience between Stt & Stx.

I would rather pay a little extra for a flight than getting seasick.

I'm sorry - I didn't think my questions were irrelevant and was just seeking basic information. You seemed to be knowledgeable about the festival transportation so assumed you would have an idea from past experience, I wasn't looking online for specific scheduling information but looked to see if there had been any such info posted in previous years just to get a rough idea. Thank you for answering the baggage question.

carribeb: Too bad your tickets are non refundable but between the two airlines and their frequent schedules you shouldn't have any problems - enjoy a lovely vacation!

SeaBreeze: I never took the ferry so can't give you a first hand account but have many friends who did. For some it was a pleasant trip, for others not so much and depending on weather conditions/sea swells. However, given the descriptive nicknames (and at least the last operator actually handed out brown bags to boarding passengers) you can imagine that a 45 minute ride to someone who gets even a little queasy might be cause for second thoughts. Right now and for at least the near future you won't have the option anyway!

Carrie, you need to make your reservation for St Croix flight as early as you can. That's one of the busiest travel times, and the planes are small.

It's, not that your question is irrelevant, it's speculation as to what the situation could be this year with the economy so bad. I could never travel during the holidays, but for example, last year they had a ferry going to St Croix's Ag Fair, and it left from STJ instead of STT. Nice smooth ride!

Why don't you stay on STT and go to STX next time ?
