I have two questions:

How long would it take to drive from Crown Marina (where water island ferry docks) to Red Hook. Could it be done in an hour leaving Crown Marina at 7:00 a.m. on a weekday? Our charter leaves at 8:00 A.M

When you take the ferry from St. Thomas (Charlotte Amelie) to Virgin Gorda where do you dock? We want to go just to the Baths- can we walk or do they have other transporation? We haVe only been on a cruise shop beofre so I have no idea.

Are these ferrys similair in size to the one's that go to St.John? Many thanks!!!

I can answer one of the questions.

The ferry dock on VG is not walking distance to the Baths. There will be taxi's available to take you there.

Crown Bay to Red Hook at 7am about 30 minutes maybe even less.
The WI ferry is very small - most of the VG ferries are mid size.

The ferry from the US to the BVI is about the same size as the one from St Thomas to St John. I understand "just" wanting to see the Baths, but if you take a crewed day boat, you will get food, drinks, pleasant patter from crew (who will also clear you through Customs going over), maybe a snorkel stop here and there. So much more pleasant that the stinky ole ferry. :@) Check out Pirate's Penny/Stormy Petrel, Limnos, New Horizons, etc.

Are you staying on Water Island? And, rereading your post, I am confused- are you asking about charters or the ferry??

Actually I was asking about the ferries. Now we have decide to do a charter instead. I am looking at Sunsea charter or Vibe charters.
Yes- we are staying on Water Island. Thanks

We hired Capt. Alex with Sunsea charters and had one of the best days of our lives. He will take you anywhere you want to go and get you there fast so you can enjoy multiple locations. We went to St. John, Tortola, Sandy Spit, Norman Island, Willie T's for lunch, the Baths, and finally Jost Van Dyke for a couple of hours at the end of the day. We went snorkling in (2) spots and even ent tubing by Norman Island. We ended up getting back to St. Thomas over an hour later than scheduled. What a day.

Emmilu, you may find at the end of your charter that you will be scrambling to make (or miss altogether) the last ferry to Water Island. It would be a shame to end an otherwise wonderful day with a lot of stress about catching the Water Island ferry. You may consider securing Joe Mancino's water transport services in advance. Joe can pick you and your crew up at Tickles/Crown Bay Marina and transport you to Water Island/Phillips Landing outside of the WI ferry schedule. You can reach Joe at

Wishing you all the best enjoyment on your trip!

You caught my attention Mike? I found their website, but do not see anything about number of people that can go on boat. Also, can you give me an idea of average fuel costs for a day like this? There are 7 of us going to St. John next month and this sounds like a fantastic way to see the other islands . . .
