Why is there ONLY a ferry from STT to STX on the weekends? My husband and I fly into STT on a Monday and fly out on a Thursday. We thought it would be fun to take the ferry to STX . PLEASE HELP!! We are staying on STX.

You're staying on STX but flying into STT?

There is not a daily ferry STT-STX because it is not often a pleasant ride and cannot generate enough traffic to sustain a regular route with a viable vessel on an economic scale----- it also is a long ride - and for not a huge difference in money you can fly a shorter, more comfortable and convenient air route.

I don't understand taking the ferry to STX, you can hop on a plane or the seaplane and be there so quickly. The ferry is long and not a fun trip.

I guess your post is a little confusing. Are you staying on STT or STX? If you are staying on STT, and only for 4 days, I think your time would be best spent enjoying all the things you can on STT, there is so much to do and see. If you are staying on STX, you better book a flight to STX.

I was on the Red Hook to Cruz Bay ferry yesterday and the staff were talking and I overheard them tell someone that the ferry to STX took 6 hours recently due to the ocean conditions.............no thank you 😮

We save $400.00 by flying into STT instead of flying into STX. That's alot of money to save. That's why we want to know about the ferry going from STT to STX. Does anyone know anything about these ferries? Does the ferry only go from STT to STX once per day? Are there other ferries?

The STT/STX ferry schedule is exactly as listed here:

www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry

and there are no other ferries, it's the only one. I don't think you realize how far St Croix is from St Thomas and to fly into STT when you're staying on STX just isn't the way to do it. You may think you're saving money by flying into STT but given the limited time of your stay you still have to get to STX and waste a lot of time doing so. You can check Seaborne airlines at www.seaborneairlines.com or Cape Air to see if you can fly out of STT on either of those but the money you've saved isn't going to amount to much at all when you take those additional fares into consideration.

The best and only advice I can give you is to take a direct flight to STX. Good luck planning and enjoy your visit!

The ferry is only Fri, Sat, Sun and Mon - IF it is running as it is not the most reliable. Also the crossing can be rough hence the nickname given as "The Barf Barge" As stated earlier a recent trip took 6 hours - full day of vacation would be wasted 🙁 and you probably would have been green when you arrived - but the choice is yours. Personally, if you already have your flights I would stay on STT for such a short trip and save STX for your next trip - and fly directly there.

I'd just like to add that whatever you decide to do and how you plan it, do try and get back to us with a trip report. Other visitors really enjoy trip reports and so do we locals who, through their eyes, see things from a different perspective/ Cheers and Happy New Year!
