Hey again...
Sorry to be bugging you all about these ferries. Has anyone taken the Ferry to Jost from STJ? Is it hard to get on them since they one run a couple times a day on the weekends only? I just dont want to not book an excursion thing and then not be able to take the ferry over to JVD. We will be on STJ in Mar 06. THanks again guys!

Lynds...

Hello Lynds,

I haven't taken it from St. John. I've called them in the past and asked about reservations etc. and they always say the same thing... "be there at least 30 minutes prior to departure and you'll be fine".

Islander..
Thanks for the reply! Im just confused about what we should do. I keep going back and forth. We're not goin til march but I'm getting anxious. This one place...its 120 pp and you can go to Jost for the day. Sounded nice. But we just wanna be on our own ya know? So i was thinking the Ferry was the cheapest and best way to do that...

What does everyone else think?? Any input would be grrrreat! THanks alot guys!

you know. i'm torn with this too. on the one hand - $50 round trip pp to go to jvd is a good price... but for $100 pp we can take limnos (aprox) and go to the baths... or for $400 boat we could take a charter (ocean runner, and have a captain) and go do other odds and ends things. so... we're going in less than 2 weeks. we'll do trip report and let ya know how it goes.

Okay great thanks! Yea the Limnos/Horizons and all that looks great but i want to spend most of the day on Jost. Also..I would love to charter a boat but its just me and my boyfriend, and we're both still in college...so we dont have a ton of cash to blow ya know. So lemme know how it goes! Have fun!

We've taken the ferry over to Yost from STT. Last year is was $45. pp. Taxi to the Soggy Dollar (beach) was $5. pp each way. Upon our return to the dock we went to Foxy's. We had a good time on our own. We'd do it again!

Was your "Customs" fee included in your Ferry fee? Or did you have to check into a customs office on Jost and pay the fee there, separately?? And just to confirm - what was the custom fee?? I believe that it is $20 per person.

Thank you for the post on your trip via ferry. We are going to St. John in April & need to get back to Soggy's (and need to see Foxy's for the first time) - and are still trying to decide between a catamaran trip & the ferry.

Thanx for your reply!

Sue:

Since I don't remember paying a separate fee it probably was included. However, this was a year ago. The current fee is $20.

btw...the Yost customs office was closed...we had to go to Tortola first.

Our ferry trip went like this: STT to STJ to Tortola to Yost to STJ to STT

When we go back we'll probably spend the night there and come back the next day. (We missed Foxy...he was off island.)

Lyndsey-

I have been to Jost many times. I wouldn't worry about not getting there because of ferry issues. Jost is becoming popular and March 6 is still going to be a busy time, so ferries are likely to be running. Like you, I prefer to be "on my own" and not booked on charter trips. Thus, I usually take ferries or rent a private boat. For the two if you, the private boat is cost prohibitive. Jost is a great experience - White Bay, Ivans (and his honor bar), Foxy's, The Bubbly Pool, etc. I'm sure you'll get there.
