I should know this but...does the ferry from Cruz Bay to Red hook leave on the hour or half hour? How about Red Hook to Cruz Bay? On the hour too?

Hello Jo-Ann,

Every hour on the hour in both directions. Leaving St. Thomas there are two real early ones that leave on the the half hour.

Check https://www.vinow.com/general_usvi/interisland_ferry/
and select Red Hook Cruz Bay - for the whole schedule.

Thanks Islander. We have been to STJ for 8 years in a row now. You would think it would register in my diminishing brain cells when they left by now. Oh well. Looking forward to being there in March. Last year when we left, the airport on STT was a nightmare, and barely made our flight. There were 4 american airlines flights leaving at once and there seemed to be 400 people all trying to get in line at one time. We want to get there early this year. Thanks Islander!!!!! Happy New Year.

Hi Jo-Ann,

Any suggestions on where to stay on St. John, there is a post under subject Accomodations who are first timers to St. John, honeymooning??

I have gone to the St. Thomas airport and flew through check in, customs, immigration to sit for an hour or more waiting for the flight to leave AND I have gone and been biting my nails because the line is insane.

Have a great New Years.

Hi Islander,

For the past six years, we have been staying at a small cozy cottage that sits up on a hill in Calabash Boom in Coral Bay. It has all the necessities; fully functional kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, blender, cooking utensils, plates, etc) a porch with a swing, chairs, and BEAUTIFUL view. It looks out over the east end and the BVI's. It's one of my favorite views in the world. There is a dining table inside, small one on the deck, a small sofa and chair, VCR tv, and some movies, books, hot tub outside, so you can look at the stars at night, and lots of peace and quiet. The drive up to the cottage is an adventure in itself, but just pop it in 4WD and up you go! The owners keep a journal for visitors to write in and there have been lots of honeymooners that have stayed there and everyone says they love it. I know we do. We look forward to this one week all year long.

Our wait in line last year at the airport was a bit scary. They had only two windows open for American Airlines, for four flights going out all at the same time. Yikes! I guestimate that there was probably 600 people all trying to make their flights in line. This year, I will gladly sit in the airport just so I don't have to stress in line with everyone else. We also have not had any problems before but we have always left a lot earlier in the day.

Have a great New Years yourself. Thanks for all the handy info.

Might consider your next years trip for the late summer and fall (off season). Airport was a breeze both coming to and going from STT this past September. Plus the beaches and everything are less crowded. 🙂 First ferry to STJ from C.A. on a Saturday had maybe 9 people on board. Cinnamon Bay beach had two other couples...and they left shortly after my wife and I arrived...who could ask for a more perfect day than to end up all alone on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world! 🙂

I love the off season!

Jay,

Lucky you to have such privacy. I think that STJ has the most beautiful beaches in the world, too. My personal favorite is Francis. I would love to go in the fall, but it's hard to get away that time of year for us. In any case, it's good to get away in the winter away from all the snow in New Hampshire. Last year was the only time we ever had a problem in the airport. Maybe it was just coincidence, or bad timing. However, we did make it home to the snow 🙁 . However, we have 67 days till we leave on our next trip. Not that I am counting the days or anything! ; ). Hope you get to go again soon.
