Hello Debbie,

If you scroll to the top of this page and click on Ferry Schedules you will find the car barge information after the passenger ferry information.

I don't use the barge regularly enough to be able to compare times of day or days of the week. I don't really worry about crowdedness except for when I want to return to St. Thomas from St. John; in which case I don't wait to take the very last ferry and try to get to the dock at least 30 minutes prior to departure.

Anyone use the car barge regularly and have feedback on what times of day its less busy?

Hi, was down on ST Thomas over Easter week. We took the car ferry over, which I was very apprehensive about. (I too had read a few reports about the difficulties) All I can say is that it was a breeze! We arrived a little before 8 AM, just as the barge began to load. There were a few trucks, but the gentleman there just directed to me to turn my car so that I could back it on. I did fine, but the trucks do back in very close to you! In fact the cars are so close that you stay in your cars for the trip. Coming back was easy as well, although I'm sure it would be a bit more crazy at the end of the day! Enjoy your trip, wish I was still there. Eventually I'll get my trip report out!.

I take it a few time a week for work, and I agree with Islander try to avoid the 5pm rush, and get there 1/2 hour early. I've never had a problem getting on when all of the car ferries are running. I have seen fistfights and some get hit by a car intentionally when 2 ferries weren't working. Needless to say I sat in the ferry dock lot for 2 hours, but lucky for me there is a bar across the street so sit back relax and let everyone else duke it out.
