I can't for the life of me find any map that shows where the passenger ferry leaves from in CA to Cruz Bay. The ferry schedule here has no address or instructions listed. I've been to the Varlack Ventures site and they also offer no information on where you actually board the ferry. This is becoming a reoccurring theme theme here on the islands. Can someone please point me to the proper info?

You catch it downtown but you wont see it on a map as there is no building - the ferry just pulls up to the seawall and you board - there is a TSA agent there when the ferry arrives and leaves and you will see a "bus stop" type structure and thats it. It is close to AH Rise (on the other side of the street)

Thanks, but what's AH Rise? I guess this is why I'm getting a little frustrated on St. Thomas. Why make people come to a forum, register and post a question and wait for answers before they can take a ferry? If they're going to have a Ferry Schedule listed, which is great, how about showing us where to get on the ferry? Are we just supposed to stand along the sea wall at some random spot and then run to any large boats we see coming toward the wall? Are the boats a particular color or different all the time?

AH Riise is a shopping mall on the waterfront. The address is 37 Main Street. The ferry docks across the street. The easiest way is to just tell your taxi driver that you need to take the ferry to St. John from downtown. They will know where you need to go.

Ok thanks. I'm not taking taxis, I'm walking so I needed to know specifically where to go.

It seems that humble apologies are due you for the fact that you were MADE to come onto a forum and WAIT for a response before you can take a ferry. I'm sure the majority of those of us who take the time to answer visitor's questions will now ensure that in future we're sitting right on top of our computers 24/7 in order to ensure that such a travesty never happens again. How about you could have easily called the ferry operator listed on the schedule to ask directions? AH Riise is a store, one of whose branches is on the waterfront and opposite which the ferries pull alongside. I suggest that if you need further pointers you call the ferry operator and ask them to put a large sign on the vessel's prow with your name on it. Don't let the gangplank gate hit you on your way out of St Thomas and may you enjoy a wonderful vacation devoid of any more such huge problems. Good grief.

Pia, what's that old saying about no good deed going unpunished? 😀

Anyone on your walk can tell you exactly where to go.

I'm not sure where you thought I was upset at forum members. Where did I say that? I appreciate the people on this board answering my questions. If it sounded like I was venting at Pia, that's not the case. I was thanking her and just reiterating the fact that I shouldn't even have to be asking forum members. It's the fact the vinow.com could just very easily include a map along with their schedule so that I don't have to bug other people to get answers. I mean doesn't that make sense? If you are going to post Ferry Schedules, maybe include maps so that people know where to go? Is expecting a small map with an X on it unreasonable for me to expect?

I'm here working for a month and don't have a landline and I have Verizon so I can't really make calls. So when I'm sitting here at night surfing the web for Ferry info and every site I go to doesn't mention the pick up site, it gets a little frustrating.

But of course I appreciate everyone's help here.

Actually I had asked 2 different people the day I posted here. One person just walked by like I wasn't there and the other pointed the direction and said "that way", but wasn't particularly specific. So I stopped asking. Not everyone is so friendly to us visitors. Sometimes you make eye contact with people to ask them a question and they walk away and shake their head "no".

That's why I was online searching for a map, and then here because I had gotten good advice on another question I asked earlier.

So no, a sign with my name on it isn't necessary and I appreciate your good wishes. A simple, "Across the street from AH Riise mall at 37 Main Street", courtesy of Pia and NC Susan was exactly what I was looking for and thank you to them for answering my simple question without insults.

With due respect...
If you are going to be on island for a month you need to pull away from the computer, take the time to meet the people you are living with and ask someone in person.

Sorry for assuming you had not asked and apologize for not getting immediate assistance from the street. I also get that when I travel...anywhere. I also have to admit that the ferry schedules are posted for my locals in Texas but none provide a map so I'm afraid STT is not unique.
Glad you got your information and don't stop asking people as I am certain you will find good ones (on the street and here).

In the spirit of goodwill and in an effort to ease the passage of your stay here which I hope will be enjoyable, you may not know (and I'm not making any assumptions, merely suggesting) that before you ask a question of anyone here you should first say, "Good Morning/Day/Afternoon/Evening/Night," and wait for the similar response before asking. It's one of those funny island courtesies and makes the world of difference. Hope that helps.

Don't be upset with vinow.com, they are not the operators or the official dispensers of ferry info. The site you visited (Varlack Ventures) is though and I agree, they should have some sort of directions on their site if they do not now.

GOOD EVENING! There, I said that so let's keep this happy 🙂 That being said, I do have to agree with the original poster on the aspect of finding things on all islands in the usvi. I traveled a lot around the mainland US and pretty much anything (yes, even the smallest boat dock in Texas) you can easily find by zooming in to the general location on google maps/earth. Anyway, it is what it is and I've just grown to accept it. The fact is though, for being "part" of the US it is by far the most difficult place to pinpoint locations for first time visitor PRIOR to arriving. Hey, some of us just like to know early 😎 Just a lot of vague info and no directions from some pretty big tourist attractions. They might give an address, but that will not work in google maps or bing maps. So yes, I ordered some maps (from VI Trader of course) and even got some from my local AAA. Um, all the street names contradict with one another, so without the exact locations it is useless. Again, I am not complaining about any person or anything. Just stating there are a lot of visitors as well that try to plan trips and outings BEFORE they arrive. Nearly impossible to do for a first time visitor in the usvi. As I mentioned above though, it is what it is and I'm just going to go with it and enjoy myself and hope I catch some cool sights while getting lost a couple of times 😀

That's why I try to gps many attractions and add photos. I've posted Sapphire Beach, Coki, Emerald, Water Island, etc. It's funny how wrong, those Google maps can be, but that's why they created us human forum posters.
