We will be arriving around 9 p.m. on St. Thomas and are staying in a villa in St. John. Is it easier to stay in a hotel near the airport in St. Thomas that night and take the ferry the next day at Charlotte Amalie or take a taxi that night to Red Hook for the ferry and rent a car in St. John? Would we even be able to rent a car that late at night? Would it be safe to take a taxi and ferry at night? We were looking at Conrads for the rental car from the recommendations on the board. We'll also have our 3 children (5, 8 & 11 years) with us. Thanks for any input.

I would recommend you take the taxi to the ferry and not to worry. Have your villa person pick you up. Maybe the car people will give you the car and you go back in the morning and take care of the paperwork. usually if you secure a car thru your rental agent this will help expedite it! I believe that the rental company charges an extra fee for meeting after hours. Check it out. With 3 kids it would be best to get settled in once!

Mel,

That is exactley what my family has done for years. We usually fly in around 9 and take the taxi to Red Hook. We also rent from Conrad, and if you let him know, someone (usually Conrad) will meet you at the office and let you come back in the morning to finish the paperwork. What we usually do is when we get out to Red Hook, use the phone there to call and let the villa company and Conrad know what ferry we will be on. Most of the time, the taxi will be full and will be dropping people off at hotels all the way out to Red Hook and you will be the last drop off, so it is a safer bet to call once you get to the ferry dock. Have a great time!!

Only 2 more days for me!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yipeeee
