*We are taking a cruise in about 3 weeks. One of the ports are St.John. Does the ships dock there or do you take a tender?
Thanks
Ships have no way of tendering in St. John. They tender in St. Thomas where you will have to take a ferry to St. John.
Some ships anchor outside of Cruz Bay and tender in.
If STJ is listed as one of your ports, you will anchor on the North side (just ouside Cruz Bay) and tender in. Some folks that have a port listed as STT will get off at the dock they are tied to (Havensight or Crown Bay), or tender in if they are at anchor, and grab a cab to the ferry (Red Hook or Charlotte Amalie) to visit STJ.
If your cruise itinerary specifically said "St. Johns"... check to make sure the island you are going to isn't Antigua. The port city there is also called St. John's. Sometimes people unfamiliar with the Caribbean islands can wind up confused by this.
"St. Johns", with an "S", is a city in Antigua, while "St. John", no "S", is an island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. If the itinierary says "St. Johns", that is the port in Antigua you will visit. If it says "St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands", you will be at anchor in Pillsbury Sound, and tender in.
