Hello Everyone,

I've updated my photo website with some pictures from our honeymoon on St. John. I've also made a new gallery with the "most popular" photos based on hit counts.

Thought I'd share with my fellow St. John addicts!

Good Grief!! Those are the most amazing photos I have ever seen. Glad I'm on the "T minus 10 day count" down to my next visit or this would make me want to buy a ticket. Thanks!

The pictures are amazing. It looks like you used a SLR and not a digital is that correct. The pelican shots were fantastic.
We leave in 7 for two weeks of sailing and I can't wait.

Great pics. What kind of camera did you use?

You take such great shots. And I'm reminded once again that I really need to get a polarizer before our next trip.

Hi Marie,

Thanks for the comments... it's actually both. An Digital SLR. Very happy with its capabilities... film is dead at this point. A few years ago I thought it would have taken longer, but they've come along way...

Regards,

Matt

Ole Matt may not be a “pro” but he has learned three secrets of great outdoor photography:

#3 – get a decent camera & lens
#2 – never put the horizon in the middle of the frame
#1 – go someplace like St. John. Even if the pictures suck, you’ll still have a great time.

Heading down in May with my new Digital Rebel XT. Will use the long flight to try to figure out what all the buttons are for.

Thanks for sharing. Nice work.

Secret #4 for Caribbean = POLARIZER FILTER (think sunglasses for your camera - cuts glare, and makes water colors POP)

IslandTimer if you dont have one yet for your Rebel, get one.

Others also take note - check if your digital camera can accept (any SLR will for sure), read a few notes on how/when to use, and you will be amazed by the results.

Couldn't agree more about the polarizer. It is a magical little gizmo.

secret #5 - The eye behind the lens HAS to be able to see (in a design sense). The camera and lens are just the tools... great photos are made in the mind of the photographer!
Awesome stuff Matt!

Gorgeous pics, you've got talent. However, how big was that shark and where was it so I can avoid going there?
