Our wedding day is only 23 days away. We'll be going to STX for the first time. We are staying at Cottages by the Sea. Any beaches you can recommend that we definitely visit?? We bought our own snorkel gear. We are renting a jeep.

The beach you will be on is very good for snorkeling. The public park to the south along the same road also has good snorkeling. And, of course, Cane Bay. I also like to water by Cocanuts (formerly Changes in Latitude). It's a little harder in and out, but there is lots to see.

On the east end the Buccaneer beaches are very good.

Have a fun time.

hello kazmor

favorite beaches - 1st would have to be turtle beach on buck island, but you won't be able to take your jeep there - you can only get there by boat - check it our while your there. 2nd would be shoy's beach right next to the buccaneer resort. the buccaneer has all ammenities while shoy's won't have it there unless you bring it with you but the water is so blue and so calm and the beach and setting is really beautiful.
they say that sandy beach on the west side is one of the most beautful beaches in the caribbean, it's always closed for turtle nesting in the summer and for that reason i have never been there to testify
some other beaches that our family enjoys are grapetree beach on the south side - cane bay beach on the north side -
the divi resort beach on the south side but at times it can have a lot of sea grass.

congrats on the up coming wedding & have a great time on stx - it's a beautiful place

steve

Steve, thanks for responding. What sailing business do you use to see Buck Island? Will Blackbeard's take us to turtle beach?

I believe that every operator to BI spends part of the trip on Turtle Beach. It is just gorgeous. I usually have used Milemark because they have a power boat that gets out to Buck Island pretty quickly. This allows more time in the snorkleing area. They have changed names a year or so ago and now go by the name of Caribbean Sea Adventures. At least I think that's the new name. They are on the boardwalk ,a few doors down from the King Christian hotel. Their prices are reasonable and they do a good job. They do offer a deal that any subsequent trip is at half price. I think that the other outfits offer the same deal. I did go on a large sailboat once and a smaller sailboat another time. It took too long on the sailboats but it was still fun. Do not miss Buck Island. It's great...

Kazmor

These are the two that our family has used: - both sail charters

http://www.visitstcroix.com/captainheinz.html

http://www.bigbeards.com/sailing.htm

captain heinz spends the entire time at buck island weather it's snorkleing or just hanging on the beach

big beards, on our trip, spent about 45 minutes at turtle beach then about 1 1/2 hrs snorkling and then they sailed to another beach on mainland stx for a cookout for lunch

personally our family liked captain heinz - he was a little more expensive at the time - but we liked spending the majority of our time at turtle beach - once you see it i think you will understand

stcroixboix mentions another option and i would definately check that one out also, i know i will my next trip there

Here's a pic of Cane Bay (beach at left) shot from the Off the Wall beach bar this past April:

To clarify the above picture -- the area in the foreground of this picture isn't Cane Bay beach but the shoreline in front of Off the Wall. Cane Bay beach in the left background, almost out of the picture.

HI!

Thanks, Linda, but I thought I captioned the shot as that, right at the top of the picture - - didn't this come through on the post? I can see it right at the top above the picture.

Here's another one, showing a bit more of the beach:
