I am going to spend 6 months in the VI starting mid-may. I'm going to spend about 3 months on Water Island and then "hop around". I was wondering if there are any monthly water taxi fee options that would save you vs. paying each trip.

I don't know how much the savings are but believe you can purchase term books for the STT/STJ ferries. No clue about the WI ferry. The operators' numbers are listed on the website so give them a call:

The problem with the STT/STJ ferry is that the book is only good for 30 days. After that you must purchase another book even if you have tickets left in the old one. Why this is, I do not know as the money you pay for these tickets does not expire unlike the tickets. Maybe a WI resident can comment on their ferry service/rates.

OK thanks. I'm not really that concerned with it otherwise I'd just call and ask. I was just thinking someone here might know. I guess I can't imagine that those that have to travel between islands daily ( ie: work, school, etc. ) would pay the same rates as daily tourists do.

They don't but unless you are going back and forth to STJ from STT, etc., on a daily basis, it doesn't make sense to purchase a book of tickets. Students get a special rate as do commuters and seniors do as well but only with a VI Senior Citizens card.

Have you been to the USVI before? I'm just curious of your choice to stay on WI for 3 months out of the 6 that you will be there. We only went to WI for 1 day and it was enough for us. There is a "commune" like vibe to it or something...(and a large old man in a tiny yellow Speedo! - maybe just a tourist??) I'm sure we will give it a try again sometime though because I know you can't base an opinion on one day. (If I can talk my husband into it!) We are absolutely in love with STT & STJ though. I hope to gradually increase our stays to 6mos! Enjoy!

We've stayed in SJ and STT many times. I'm going to work so I wanted a quiet secluded place and thought I'd give WI a try. I really need a slower, less stress environment.

2Beachbums, you should give WI another try. There's a lot going on at Honeymoon Beach. Heidi Honeymoon Grill is better than ever and Dinghy's Beach Bar is swinging as well. And of course, the people are always friendly - even those wearing Speedo's.

That's cool! Enjoy your time there!

FL B I- I'm sure we will one of these times. I'm sure you're right about most of the people but Tiny Speedos are still creepy to our family! Lol! It literally sent my young son who was snorkeling running scared to me!
Have a great day!
