My husband and I will be staying in STT 2/28 – 3/6. We’re not in to the whole touristy thing (fancy dinning, being catered to etc..) We would like to experience the Islands and culture without the tourist part of it. Any recommendations on things to do/see? Restaurants that the locals hang out to eat more than the tourists?

Have been doing some researching and came across Ecotours. It sounds fun! I see that there is one in STT and STJ. Is one better than the other? Rented a jeep in STT. I read on the board a while back that a rental place in Sapphire Beach STJ is cheaper, is that true? Any other info would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm always interested in hearing about things to do and places to go on STT. When posters ask what to do while on STT, all too frequently the responses are to take day trips to other islands.

Oh! The Sunday beach party at Sapphire Beach! EVERYBODY goes there on Sunday afternoons. Great local band playing soca and other types of Caribbean music.

Sha-Sha,
You picked the right location and yes, the North side is much like STJ in many ways! We have 2 villas on North side and sooooo many of my guests have loved being in our quiet, spacious area where there are few homes! You will find many local things to do and you will enjoy your self immensely! Since you are staying in Mandahl, you will see the occasional boat going in to the Salt Pond to catch fry to then go out and go fishing and you can go down to the beach there which is only visited by LOCALS!!!! NO tourists there! NO beach bar, no rental stands! If you get a 4wd Jeep, you can go down to Neltjaberg Beach which we enjoy immensely and again ONLY locals and VERY FEW at that!!!! This a beach that, during the week, there is hardly a person in sight AT ALL!!!! On the weekends, maybe you might see about 5 cars parked! WOW! PM me if you would like directions or even my cell number, I would be happy to tell you how to get there! (many locals don't even know how to get there)!
The Northside of STT is quiet and peaceful!
STJ has been built up A LOT if you ask me, went over to do a wedding a few months back and I couldn't believe my eyes! Read the forum, this one and the others, more STJ posters than STT!!!! What does that tell you????? Now, if you want to stay in a hotel, stay out on the East End, or in town for that matter, you will see A LOT of buildings and homes! But sorry folks, the North side, more West of town, remains pretty much the same as it always was! 🙂

To others, Stick with the question!
