Assuming I make it to St. John (see prior post - LOL), what type of excursions do you guys recommend? We are staying at the Westin and plan to visit other beaches for sure. Are there any kind of boat trips like deep sea fishing, or visits to other islands that we can go on? What about swimming with the dolphin excursions? Thanks guys for all your help and support! It is appreciated. 🙂

Robin, the Westin Hotel has a number of boating excursions available. These include diving, snorkeling, trips to the BVI that include snorkeling and shore excursions. rember to bring your passport. I've never seen fishing trip offerred at the Westin, however, there are a number of boat available for charter from Cruz Bay and Coral Bay.

Swimming with Dolphins is Not available anywhere in the Virgin Islands (as far as I know).

Hey Robin,

I really thought long and hard about whether to respond to your question re. swims with dolphins.

There is a dolphin swim program in Tortola, British VI.

However, I don't mean to be a party-pooper, but please, please, please consider the resulting cruelty to the dolphin from captive swim programs. There is an ever increasing concern re. captive dolphins and their well-being (or lack thereof) and I urge you, before going, to research captive dolphin swims generally and the Tortola facility in particular.

Note: I know nothing about the Tortola program so I cannot, and do not, comment on their program.

That said, have a great time no matter what you do!

Robin - I should have read this post before replying to your other post first.

At the Westin, I would recommend taking an excursion on the Adventurer:
www.adventurervi.com

We took it the day before Thanksgiving in 2002 to Foxy's, Soggy Dollar Beach, and snorkeling. It was well worth it. This past March, we chartered the Adventurer's sister (Calypso) for our wedding reception. The Calypso is about 13 feet shorter than Adventurer.

My husband and I give two thumbs up for Adventurer.

One more thing - this page has some pictures from the Adventurer.

Also, we had our engagement pictures taken on the grounds of the Westin resort. I have a few uploaded as well.

Have fun!!

Robin,

Lots to do and see.

St. John - beach hop, check out the beach guide for St. John on this site. Go to the top of the page and select St. John... Beaches... there are pictures and descriptions for the beaches.

You can rent a dingy in Cruz Bay and go beach hopping that way.

Jet skis are avialable at Westin.

Rent kayaks from Crabbys in Coral Bay and kayak around Coral Bay area.

Snorkeling in St. John

Shopping

Day trip to St. Thomas by ferry ($6 round trip for one person to Red Hook, $14 to Charlotte Amalie)

Day trip to the BVI by ferry or with a charter. The Baths at Virgin Gorda are really neat.

Dolphin encounters - none in the US Virgin Islands... but there is one place in Tortola as Onika mentioned... its the Dolphin Discovery at the Prospect Reef Resort.

Good Luck with your trip. You might want to order a Vacation Planning Packet... lots of magazines, booklets, brochures about the islands, full color. Great deal. Look on http://www.vitraders.com for Vacation Kit in the navigation.
