My Uncle has been to the USVI & BVI a few times and said the shopping in St.Thomas is great for cameras and other electronics, he said a third off US prices. Is this ture and if so, is it just because it is duty-free?
What about jewelry prices? Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable and safe jewelry store to buy from?

I can direct you to many different places, depending on what you are seeking. Be it jewelry, electronics, cameras, etc. What exactly are you looking for?

Hello Ryan,

Cameras & jewerly are both good buys here in the VI. The savings have a lot to do with duty free and no sales tax.

I find the greatest savings for cameras are on the newer models. For older models you sometimes can find them for a similar discounted price on-line. For this category I'd recommend looking around at home to see what prices are, look online... have an idea of what the going prices are for the item(s) you are interested in. This is beneficial in terms of bargaining & just knowing if you are getting a good deal. You can try Boolchands (its a camera/electronics store).

There are many jewerly stores here. Its a good idea to go from one to the other and compare price, as you might find the same item at two stores that are near each other, different going prices at both. Also some jewerly stores are up for bargaining (mainly the family run stores).

Anyone have jewerly store favorites/good experiences to suggest?

Happy Shopping!

I am looking for a good digital camera, camcorder, and an external hard drive for my computer. I also want to get my wife a wedding band since we were to broke to get her one before we got married. Our honeymoon to STT in April will be almost a year after we were married.

For a wedding band, go to see "Raj" (pronounced like the abbreviated version of "Roger") at Dazzlers in Havensight. Or George at The House of Rajah on Raadet's Gade downtown. I bought my wife's wedding ring from Raj and it had an MSRP of $7,895, and I got it for $2,600. I had it appraised by a local jeweler in Michigan while we were there last October, and it was appraised at $11K.

Boolchand's is great for cameras and electronics. So is Royal Caribbean. Go the store in Havensight, and they are only, like 2 doors down from each other. Get a price at one place, then go back and forth until you are happy.
