hello everyone,

my husband and are completely clueless to the carribeans. we're definitely on a budget (found a great deal on priceline), and are looking for cheap eats and activities, but definitely want to savor all the goodness at st. thomas while celebrating our 1 year anniversary.

we definitely want to kayak and snorkel. do any of you have suggestions about either and where to dine for very cheaply? i hear the food is pretty expensive over there.

any and all advice/suggestions are welcomed! thanks!

Snorkeling is free - just need a mask and fins. You can day trip over to St. John - that is fun and worth doing - just $3 one way on the ferry. You can hike or go to the beach. Beach hop on St. Thomas during the day or go and do an island tour, walk around Charlotte Amalie, Magens Bay... Dine cheaply - well you might want to check and see if the hotel you are staying at has a small refrigerator in the room - if so buy some breakfast and lunch items so that you can fix those yourself. Fruits, juice, bread, cold cuts.... and then dinner you can spulrge a bit - with lesser expensive restaurants. You should try Duffys for a fun night out, Greenhouse's two for tuesdays is good for saving on drinks - 2 drinks for the price of one.... There are lots of restaurants in different price ranges.

You can rent everything you need to snorkel for about $35 a week. It's great fun!

Depending on when you are going you might be able to take advantage of the Rotary Club's two for one coupon booklets for most of your meals. We took full advantage of them on our last trip and got to try many new places which we will return to on our next trip. I know the books are only good until 12/15/02 (if my mind is working right). Contact Ronnie (owns the Crystal Palace on St. Thomas) who can usually be found on this board. I don't know if there are any of those books left for this year.
