*I am considering a move to the USVI an my husband is a builer and we want information on the building industry. Are you growing and is there a need for builders? What is the average income of the people who live and work there? Are many Americans from the main land relocating there? Is there work all year long? Is it difficult to get building supplies and it is hard when storms hit to have food and living needs? We want a good income and tis is his main concern.

Mary,

I'm not sure what you mean by a "good income." Living here is extremely expensive so even those fortunate enough to have high incomes spend a lot more on living expenses than most of their stateside counterparts. Housing costs vary tremendously between the islands (check realtor.com) Storms are a concern and the extreme cost of hurricane insurance attests to the great potential for storm-related losses. If your chief concern is to make money in the building trade there are far easier places for a builder to accumulate wealth. That said, if what you really want is simply to be able to live in the VI off of a builder's income that is indeed possible.
