I will be going to St. Croix soon and would like to know of some really good restaurants, both local and top notch dining. Thanks...Audrey
TOP HAT is one of the best but I am sure you will find many outstanding places to eat there. I found no bad restaurants at all.
There are so many great restaurants in St. Croix its hard to know where to start but I'll tell you a few great spots in walking distance of the fort in Christiansted. There is Savant. It has a great wine selection along with great food. Bring a big appetite and a thick wallet. Tutu Bene has excellent Italian Food, and you should try the Mesto Salad, or if you are there for lunch just stop in a Mesto's next door. That is their lunch cafe that specializes in great salads. Just across the street is Indies. Outstanding fusion cuisine, in a beautiful courtyard setting! The lamb is to die for! Or if you like great food, but travel on a budget walk further up the street to Harvey's. It's the place with a mural of Tim Duncan on the outside. Try the roast goat and you won't be disappointed.
These are just a few of your options! When you get off the plane grab a copy of St. Croix this Week to see when and where special events are happening. There are all sorts of opportunities for beach barbeques, sunday brunches, and full moon parties depending on what days you will be here.
Enjoy your visit to STX.
Bless Up,
J
Yowza, St. Croix has some of the best restaurants in the Caribbean. I have a list I can send with my "reviews" or you can check out Ed Buckley's excellent comments at http://www.stcroixscuba.com/restaurants.htm .
I just returned late last week. Friends who have the money and the palate to eat in all the best restaurants say that Bacchus is the best of the best, but also love Savant, Tutto Bene, Kendrick's and Indies (all within walking distance of each other in Christiansted). They were not at all pleased or impressed with Top Hat but your mileage may vary. Rumrunners is another choice toward the fine dining end, as is Villa Madeleine and, I'm told, South Shore Cafe. I'm sure the Buccaneer, Carambola and Divi resorts also offer some manner of fine dining, but I'm equally sure you'd pay more than elsewhere. I've heard that the Cormorant has a great menu but don't know anyone who has actually been there. I know people who rave about Duggan's and the Cultured Pelican, but their menus are not as innovative as the others if that matters.
Harvey's is only open for lunch, but has great local food as does Kim's and Nolan's Tavern, which are open for dinner. Prices at these places are extremely modest.
For great food for a wide range of appetites and wallets it's hard to beat The Bombay Club (also in Christiansted, it is NOT Indian cuisine). You can eat fully and well at prices ranging from around $9 (sublime fish and chips, burgers, etc.) to about $23 (fresh catch in an innovative preparation) and everything in between.
So there you are, I envy you if you have time to get to them all (or even half). I could go on and on about other places to eat - so many restaurants, so little time!
