We will be visiting SST for a week. Any suggestions for good cheap food establishments? Dine in or carry out?

If you are looking for something with a little more class than a fast food chain, I would recommend that you wander around Charlotte Amalie. There are many small resturants that have menus posted outside so that you can see if they have anything that your interested in. There are a bunch of resturants that serve sandwitch and caribbean style dishes that are fairly inexpensive.

You might want to check out: Craig & Sally's (excellent spot in Frenchtown, reasonable prices), Hard Rock Cafe, and if you are into the bar scene there is no better place than Duffy's Love Shack (located in Red Hook).

I must warn you food prices on the islands are not like the states. Be prepared to pay $8- $10 for a hamburger and fries.

Thanks Mike,

We're in SST now and will be checking out C. A. downtown tomorrow.
Is Coral World real nice or just a tourist trap?

Hello B Long,

Coral World is nice and combined with snorkeling at Coki beach makes for a great day. I don't think its a tourist trap; I am from St. Thomas and always take folks visiting me there and go with them - I have been there over a dozens times and still find it interesting. It is not a huge place like SeaWorld and there aren't stuffed animals, posters, stickers, balloons... everywhere like SeaWorld either. Its a small place, might take about 2 hours to check it all out... the tanks contain tropical fish... there is a touch pond with star fish, jeuvenile sharks, sea turtles, iguanas, predator tank, underwater observatory and then the two other tanks that I can't remember the names of are really neat with seahorses and florescent corals and aninomes... If you picked up some brochures/booklets there are usually coupons for a few dollars off.

Thinking about coupons or discounts - You also might check out Paradise Point at happy hour - the tram ride during happy hour is free and then discounts on food/drinks. I haven't been in a while - the last time I went I believe it was a Wednesday late afternoon. If interested call and find out.

Greenhouse has happy hour with pretty good food and good deal on drinks and food during that time. Other restaurants/bars have happy hour also so check those out.

Craig and Sallys was suggested and it is a great place but I disagree about it being cheap eating - I think its one of the pricier places on St. Thomas. But cheap to me might be different to someone else. LOL. If you are looking for other finer dining places like Craig and Sallys you might try Banana Tree Grill, Virgilios, Old Stone Farm House... all really nice - maybe for a special dinner.

Blue Moon Cafe at Secret Harbor is a middle priced place with wonderful food and service. For a nice lunch and not too pricey with a few drinks by a bar and a swim at a nice beach try the Palms at Emerald Beach - at the hotel there.

For really quick bites for lunch you can stop at food vans - down at Brewers Bay for example you can get a few chicken legs or a pate or other local foods for $5-8. Take out for dinner there are pizza places if you are looking for that sort of thing.

Have a great time and let us know where you decided on and how it all went.!!!
