Can someone familiar with the East End of St. Thomas help me fill in the blanks? My husband and I will be staying at Cabrita Point with Julianna in late January, and our friends (who booked later) will be at Secret Harbour. Will we be within walking distance of each other - or just how far apart will we be? We are renting a car from EZ car rental in Red Hook, so we'll be able to drive ourselves and our friends (if all goes well with driving on the left!) Any suggestions for best beaches, best restaurants (we love seafood and local specialties), etc. on the East End? Where is the best place to find a good beer and a little music? Thanks for any tips.
Sue: The distance between Cabrita Point and Secret Harbour is within walking distance, but the road is very narrow, twisty and rather dangerous. You COULD walk during the day, but not at night....Since you have a car, it is not a problem! Driving on the left isn't difficult- you just designate someone as the "STAY LEFT!!" person...You can drive all over the place looking for your favorite beaches. In the Red Hook/East End, you can find great seafood at Azure, Off the Hook, Blue Moon. Local specialities- pour your own drinks at Poor Man's/The Warehouse Bar, Texas Pit BBQ wagon in front of East End Flower Shop, hmm... Bottoms Up at Independence Boat Yard? Beer and music- Latitude 18 or Molly Molone's. Hey, let's have fun out there!!!!!
Sue,
My husband and I stayed at Cabrita Point in March and my mom and I went back for a long weekend there in October. You should be happy with you choice of accomodations. Feel free to email me if you have any questions regarding Cabrita Point. We really liked Molly Malones in Red Hook and Cuzzin's in CA.
The beach at the Ritz is within walking distance from Cabrita, but if you want to see many fish I would suggest driving to Coki.
Have a great time!
Hello Sue,
Beach hopping on the East End is fun, check out Coki Beach, Sapphire Beach, the beach at the Ritz, Secret Harbor... also drive out to Magens Bay. Since you have a car you can do an island tour - just drive around and see the island. Take the car ferry to St. John for a day and spend time there. A shopping day in town where you can also visit the historical sites. You might do happy hour on I think Wednesday late afternoon up at Paradise Point, the tramride is free for happy hour goers - they have music and great view. Have a great time.
