*Are there any dune buggy rentals on the island? thanks
There aren't any dunes to my knowledge on ST John or the others. Maybe someone can correct me on this but these are extinct, steep volcanic islands with very narrow beaches
Most of the beaches are too delicate to consider dune buggies and on STJ, the National Park Service would probably not allow them even if the beaches could handle it.
With the excepion of several STT and STX beaches most are fairly shallow and short while the larger beaches tend to be heavily populated (relative in USVI terms) so driving/riding buggies would not make sense or be much fun.
And don't forget the turtles. Many of the beaches are turtle nesting areas.
In addition to poor environmental profile of dune buggies, the beaches in the USVI are generally small coves, not long stretches like in Florida. If you want to see an island that shows little respect for their beaches, go to Aruba! Their "outback" trek in Jeeps and ATVs beats anything I have seen in the Caribbean.
You can find ATVs on Jost Van Dyke (unfortunately).
