I have gotten some mixed answers on this question.
In St.Thomas do you drive on the left or right side of the road?
And how safe/dangerous are the roads there?
Hello Ryan,
We drive on the left side of the road. Standard American cars with left side steering.
The roads are safe; their windy, hilly, lots of curves but safe... there are street lights, street signs, speed limits. Roads are paved... same rules as US for markings painted on the road.

mixed answers?? that explains the several times i met someone in my (left) lane coming around a curve! the rule seems to be very similar to driving the amalfi coast road in southern italy: whoever gets to the lane first has the right of way!
actually, if you enjoy driving, you will enjoy driving the twists and turns of STT, expecially if you have a small, spunky car. but if you are a hesitant driver, you may find it to be a bit daunting. there are no shoulders (so don't have a flat) and some of the potholes are grand canyonesque in proportion. and forget whatever you have heard about camels not passing through the eye of a needle.
i thoroughly enjoy driving STT, but i can't say how many times i have read the 35 mph speed limit signs thinking if only i could go that fast on this road! in particular, avoid the waterfront drive when the cruise ships are in.
enjoy.
