What do people on St. Thomas drink for drinking water? Can you drink water from the tap in a condo? If not can you buy Poland Springs or similiar types of spring water? Is water piped into condos - stored in cisterns or come from wells for showers & flushing? I thought I read once somewhere that sometimes people have to buy water from water trucks. I would appreciate any info on this subject.
Thanks,
Bruce
We bought small water filters that fit in the neck of small bottles of water (got them at a local supermarket state side) and refilled the empty water bottles that we bought in St. Thomas. The water from the tap did not always seem crystal clear but I've had worse. I actually got the filters more for the kids than myself
People in the USVI drink bottled water and cistern water. Water from the tap in a condo - well that depends on where the condo is located. If its a private villa chances are the water is from a cistern, if the condo is in a condo association community the water may be from a shared source, sometimes well water or other sources. Most homes have cisterns. City water is not available island wide. Most folks when it is not raining buy water which is delivered in water trucks, this water is usually well water or salt water that has been processed by desalinization.
If you are concerned about the water at your condo you should ask the administrative folks or the front desk.... Bottled water is readily available.
