can't wait for our upcoming trip to stx in early april...just curious as to what the dress code is for most restaurants...we're a shorts and t-shirt kind of family, but like fine dining too. Do we need to bring something dressy for any of the better restaurants, or is casual wear accepted...also, someone told my husband that you are not allowed to take the top down on your jeep on the island, is that true. while I'm at it, we're staying at a villa called southern exposure which i think is near carlton beach, what are the best beaches to go to in that vicinity..many thanks

At most of the restaurants you can get away with t-shirts and shorts. But for "fine" dining (as in Kendrick's) I am more comfortable with long pants (Dockers) and a button sport shirt. You'll be able to spot me when I wear my shirt from St. Lucia. It looks like it runs on batteries (real bright). Other times I'll wear shorts and a nice shirt, polo type.

I would have to second what Bassman says for appropriate dress at better and fine dining restaurants.

In addition long pants protect your legs from insects without having to resort to repellents.

While I agree with Bassman and Jim Dandy, especially about protecting your legs from bugs, you'd be okay with a nice pair of shorts and a good looking polo shirt. It just depends on your comfort level in those situations. Capris are a good choice for women looking to dress up just a little.
