Does anyone know if Dottie from Dottie's Front Porch on STT is still alive? We saw her last Feb. and she said she wasn't sure she'd see us this year. We'd love to know any info. It is a wonderful restaurant and unique because of Dottie.
Alive and Kicking.
Here is a recent article about her.

Thanks so much!
So glad to read that Dottie is still around and the Front Porch is still welcoming us hungry souls. I love that Dottie sits down at your table to take your order and talk to you about the menu. I love that when you want a drink, Dottie heads back to her "bar" (an Igloo cooler) and grabs you something. The menu is reliable and yummy - I usually have something that is like Thai chicken. Maybe it is called Thai chicken - or Thai curry - or something like that. And her desserts? Whoa! Get the one called "To Die For" - need I say more?
We go early since the tables tend to fill quickly and people tend to linger - and there are so few seats. Spray on the bug spray before you go since dining is outdoors...sort of.
Prices are super-reasonable. Dottie is really fun and sweet - and is a wonderful hostess and chef. My mom says Dottie is her hero!
Dottie is the hostess, the waitress, the chef, the dishwasher and the bartender. And, she's 86! If you haven't visited Dottie's Front Porch, you've missed out on a very unique experience!
Can someone tell me Where Dottie's is located? How do we get there?
Hi Connie,
I am sooooo directionally challenged. I wish I could help more!
I know that if you are coming from Magens Bay or Sappahire, you go past Red Hook and keep going. Dottie's is in a marina called Compass Point. If you can figure out how to get to Compass Point, you'll find Dottie's.
Actually those were good directions! Compass point is on the right after you pass Food Center if you are coming fom the bridge to nowhere towards Red Hook, if you get to the light at the top of the hill you have gone slightly too far. And if you are coming from Red Hook get to the light at the top of the hill past the National Guard as you go down the hill its on your left. I've seen it but never been, but I will give it a shot now. I have to say I might be guilty of judging that book by the cover.
